+166 You think adoption is a great idea, but you want to have your own kids, amirite?

Thats awesome. I really like the idea of adoption, but I'd rather have my own kids. I think thats a great decision though :)

I don't want any kids at all. But if I do decide otherwise one day, they'll probably be adopted. For me it's less about being a good person and more about not dealing with pregnancy haha but the fact that it helps someone out is a pretty nice perk

I can understand that. I think its a great decision to adopt, and I support and respect anyone who chooses to adopt.

I think it seems unfair for me to bring new children into the world when there are already children alive who need homes, so I am definitely going to adopt. My dad, however, wants me to have at least one of my own children.

I plan on only adopting. I despise the idea of pregnancy to the point where I'll be sick to my stomach if I see a pregnant woman, so I will not have biological kids.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Why would you feel that way about somebody else's decision?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's not the decision of it that irks me. It's the fact that there's a living creature inside of the person. It's parasitic and it disgusts me.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well, that's one way of looking at it...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Once you adopt them, they are your "own" kid. If you think otherwise, you are not fit to adopt anyways. You should probably look into becoming foster parents.

Yes, because although the concept of adoption is nice, the average child that needs adoption has poor genetics because their parents would have otherwise been able to take care of them. My friend, for example, has one brother and one adopted sister. Both him and his brother are incredibly intelligent, with his brother going to Harvard and him having perfect grades so far. His sister, however, is in "special" classes in middle school because she struggles to read. This is because her parents were fucked up, both of them being unintelligent druggies from Russia.

It is ignorant and terrible to generalize like that. Completely "normal" parents, if you will, end up having children with learning disabilities. That's genetics. And you're being an ignorant bastard for believing that she will get nowhere. It is in no way your place to say that. "Normal" kids can get nowhere just as easily as anybody else. I don't want to be rude, but something about your comment just made me really, really, angry.

How is the fact that "normal" parents can have children with learning disabilities in any way related to what I said? I never said she will get nowhere, I simply described where she is now. Don't make up shit. "Normal" kids can get nowhere just as easily as anybody else, but they're less likely to than adopted kids because of their genetics.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That is entirely related, by the way you wrote, it sounded as if you believed only "special" parents would beget "special" children. Besides, there's nothing wrong with needing help with certain things. People aren't disabled, only differently abled. If you went to Russia and couldn't read Russian, you'd look for a translator or the same message in English. The same as a visually "disabled" person would just need to read Braille instead. Not all children can be taken care of by parents either. I have a friend that was adopted and there is not a thing wrong with her. There are more reasons for giving up a child than the child just being to difficult to care for.

She was adopted around three months after birth, meaning transferring to a new language isn't the cause for her struggles. Adopted children can indeed be normal, but the ratio of unintelligent adopted to intelligent adopted children is less than the same ratio for children that haven't been adopted. That's not because they've been adopted, but instead because of their genetics.

Woah, where did unintelligent come from? You think I'm putting words in your mouth, there's your proof that I am not.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

... What?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I don't understand how you pulled unintelligent from disabled.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Who said I did...?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You implied it.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

If I ever adopt, I'm picking an older child. Everybody seems to only want the younger kids.
