+732 You have never smoked a cigarette. amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Never have never will

by Anonymous 12 years ago

So brave.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Haha I don't want diseases in my system

by Anonymous 12 years ago

that's the answer I always give people who asks me...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I haven't, but I hate the holier-than-thou attitude that non-smokers often have towards smokers.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

To be honest, it's extremely difficult to think of a worse decision than taking up smoking tobacco. I can't think of any.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Taking up smoking crack?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It depends on who you talk to. Personally, I'd take up any other substance as a habit before tobacco.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Really? You'd rather take up say, ice or heroin? Just a wild guess but i'd say it might have a few more negative consequences than the occasional cigarette

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yes, I would rather take up ice or heroin. I assume by "ice" you mean meth. Believe it or not, heroin doesn't really have many negative side-effects at all. The negative side-effects come from whatever shit dealers decide to cut it with. I have some chemistry knowledge and know how to separate at least some of the additives from the diacetlymorphine itself, and I have the will-power to not become addicted. And it's funny you say "occasional cigarette", because nicotine has been proven to be more addictive than heroin or meth. It's also a fact that methamphetamine is prescribed as a medication for ADD and obesity in the U.S., and it's side-effects don't seem too bad at all. The biggest harm when it comes to illegal drugs comes from impurity and irresponsible use. Tobacco, on the other hand, isn't cut with harmful chemicals that the user doesn't know about, and is extraordinarily harmful to every system in the body.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yes, by ice i mean crystal meth. I live in australia and ice is a hugely popular here. The other day i saw a women wailing and yelling and throwing herself against a fence on the street because she was in withdrawal from it. But you know what since you have some will-power i'm sure that could never happen to you.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

My family has a HUGE history of alcoholism, so I know better than most to keep myself in check. Many of my philosophies about life revolve around personal responsibility. Addiction or withdrawals are not a sufficient reason in my mind to continue doing something harmful, and since I would be the only thing making myself do anything, I would stop. And of course, people who smoke tobacco never had anything bad happen to them, eh? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5zWB4dLYChM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WrWwUsKKN8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ow5uw_iCm5A

Deciding to start...killing the innocent? Raping babies? Starting any drug? Killing yourself?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

How are killing the innocent or raping babies bad ideas from a not-moral standpoint? Tobacco is unhealthier than any drug. Killing yourself and smoking tobacco are the same, basically.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Tobacco is more unhealthy than any drug? You might want to check your facts mate.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You might want to check yours. Tobacco is the number one cause of death in the United States, coming in at over 400,000 deaths per year. All illegal drugs combined kill under 13,000 people per year. Most of those deaths are from overdose or poly-drug use. Before you try to say that it's because more people smoke, that can't be it. 43% of people in the U.S. use illegal drugs. Around 70% use tobacco products. That's quite the jump, but not nearly enough to warrant a jump of almost 35 times as many deaths. That was just a quick search and from memory, so my information my not be too accurate, but it's definitely a good reference. Perhaps you should look stuff up before calling me out?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Well no shit it's the number one killer of adults in the US...that's because more people smoke cigarettes(a LOT more) than people do Heroin, or Meth, or Cocaine. so to compare strictly numbers and not give the percentage comparision of smokers->smoking deaths and heroin users->heroin deaths is wrong. r tard

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Read more than just one part of my comment, you fucking idiot.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Illegal drugs may be different than the ones that are dangerous. Drug abuse is something else too. Marijuana is illegal, but it is impossible to OD on. Oxycodine is legal, but very lethal if abused. The percentage that smoke crack is very low and there are other factors than just death that make it worse. Smoking cigarettes may kill you in many years, but smoking crack will ruin your life. You wouldn't be able to hold a job or provide for yourself. You wouldn't be able to have normal connections with people. Everything in a crack addict's life is usually geared towards getting that next hit.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Honestly, I believe crack wouldn't even exist if people had the sense to legalize drugs. Crack is basically the value form of cocaine, and cocaine truly isn't all that bad for you if not flat-out abused. If drugs were legal, cocaine wouldn't be expensive enough for people to still demand crack. Regardless, worldwide users of amphetamines, cocaine, and heroin each individually almost match the number of smokers in the U.S., but overall drug deaths still can't even begin to touch that of tobacco.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Tobacco deaths are exaggerated in many cases. If a man is 200lbs overweight and eats like shit and smokes, his heart attack is counted as a tobacco related death in many counts.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I suppose that's true, but even if half of tobacco deaths can be discredited (which I doubt), the numbers still don't even compare.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Your numbers are still off. http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/lcod.htm

by Anonymous 12 years ago

That's a different way of saying exactly what I said. Tobacco is responsible for most of the heart disease and cancer shown in those statistics. It's all about how you say it.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Show me a non Above the Influence statistic for that.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Who documented the amount of people that use illegal drugs? There are absolutely zero records kept and I doubt dealers divulge very accurate information. Once again, death is not the only complication that makes these drugs worse. It's the fact that you are unable to function normally on these. They are as addictive if not moreso than cigarettes. I know that heroin is because often users will peel back their own skin to attempt to get to a vein. Drugs like PCP give the user a feeling of invulnerability and super strength. They often cause dangerous situations for others and are very difficult for cops to take down. They destroy the life without ending it. You can't just take gross number of deaths as justification. There are many other factors to take into account.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

It's someone's best guess. Considering it's their job to come up with the statistic, their best guess should be pretty accurate. I'm not claiming it's infallible in any way. I agree that death is not the only complication, however, I also think tobacco's are worse than most drugs. When it comes to other health effects, I'd say meth's are the only ones I wouldn't take over tobacco. Also, PCP only induces a state like that in excess. You also have to look at the positive, though. Sure, you can slowly destroy yourself with both heroin and tobacco, but at least you get euphoria with heroin. Tobacco relieves stress at first, but that property completely ceases after a point, and the only thing it does is stress you when you're not smoking it. By then, you're paying to stress and slowly kill yourself with absolutely zero justification for it.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Heroine causes much worse stress when you aren't injecting it into yourself. Ever hear of withdraw? Withdraw from heroin usually last over a month with intensity. Tobacco can withdraw usually lasts about a week. With tobacco you can at least have a job and a mostly normal life, save for that cigarette break every few hours. Heroine addicts almost never have a normal job or social life. Who takes PCP in moderation?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Of course I've heard of withdrawals. The length of time depends on the type of opioid you are taking and how intense your use is. Withdrawal from opiates can last as short as 48 hours. You can certainly live a normal life on heroin if you work it out the right way. My fiance's father is constantly popping painkillers containing Oxycodone, which is extremely similar to heroin. He has a good job. The difference between popping those pills and shooting heroin is that those pills are prescription that he gets legally and they're free of adulterants. The fact that drugs are illegal makes them hundreds, if not thousands of times more expensive than tobacco, and that's often why people end up being nothing when on them. I don't know who takes PCP in moderation, probably nobody because there's no reason to take PCP. I've taken DXM before, which can be pretty similar to PCP. I wasn't all that intoxicated and it's absolutely the least addictive thing I've ever done. I find cannabis to be a lot more habit-forming than DXM.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I think making drugs illegal also makes them much more dangerous and causes more crime. I know about the similarities between those painkillers and heroin. A major difference between the two is the fact that the painkillers are in pill form. It may not seem like much, but it make a huge difference. Being in pill form allows them to be released more slowly and not cause anywhere near as intense reactions. Heroin is usually directly injected into the bloodstream. This is a huge cause of addiction and inability to live a normal life.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

This is true. A person who injects heroin will be less likely to manage their life than someone who takes pills. However, a person who is a chain smoker will also have a harder time managing things than a regular smoker. I've heard discussions between people involving them being unable to concentrate on tasks because their craving for a cigarette was so great. It's all about how you approach it. Also, thanks for what is one of the first ever reasonable discussions I've had on this site.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Everything is different from different perspectives. Nothing can be black and white. You're welcome. I enjoy more formal forms of debate/discussions than random arguments. They're much more intellectually stimulating.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Really man, the planet you live on hasn't even been discovered yet

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm living on Earth, asshole. Universal truth is not measured in mass appeal. Just because what I say isn't popular doesn't mean it's not true. I'm sure the people who thought the planet was flat were just as confident in their stance as all of you are. I know that when faced with something that says what you've been raised on is a lie, it's almost impossible to accept. I promise you I know what I'm talking about. Suspend your bias, do some research, and you will see almost everything I said is the truth. Look at multiple, unbiased, reputable sources. It's the future, it's time to accept the truth regardless of how we feel.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I find it amusing how you seem to think of yourself as a prophet or philosopher bringing new ideas into the world that are rejected by the heathen brutes of the planet. I'm not a fan of any drug, but you really say the stupidest things I've ever seen. Tobacco is more dangerous than crack?!?! How many people have you heard of that are killed by ciggies on the first hit? It happens to crack, heroine, and meth users all the time. Of course there are going to be more tobacco related deaths than other drugs because more people use it. How many scholars or doctors do you know that snort crack? It's not that your words are unpopular that make them untrue, it's that they are a crock of unsubstantiated crap with absolutely no root in sane thought proccessing known to man

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Or maybe I'm just a voice of reason trying to bring the truth to a bunch of people who've been lied to their entire lives. You are proving my point that ignorance begets ignorance. I will do something I haven't done up until now; I will formulate my entire response on right now. Before now, I was going on memory and quick searches. I will do more in depth research, and I will cite my sources. Hell, I'll use up as many reply boxes as needed. First, I'd like to point out that you just demonstrated your lack of knowledge by saying "snort crack". Crack can't be snorted. I haven't heard of anyone dropping dead on the first try from any of those drugs that didn't include overdose, a bad interaction, or a bad heart in the case of stimulants. Go find me some reputable sources that say that kind of thing happens and get me some documented cases in which it happened. I can't find any, at all. People do die suddenly from cocaine and crack, but for the same reasons as with tobacco. They're both really bad on the heart because they are both stimulants. Let's study the individual health-risks that come with each of the drugs you mentioned, assuming they are pure and taken responsibly.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Crack/cocaine - "Physical side effects include increased heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature, and sweating. Increases speed of respiration, dilates the pupils, decreased sleep and appetite. Can decrease seizure threshold and is associated with seizures, strokes, and heart attacks in susceptible individuals. Although cocaine does not cause dangerous physical addiction, discontinuing regular use can lead to a wide varieties of (very) unpleasant withdrawal and craving symptoms, including: intense cravings for more cocaine, hunger, irritability, apathy, depression, paranoia, suicidal ideation, loss of sex drive, insomnia or excessive sleep, dizziness, shaking, and/or feeling cold. Although the withdrawal from heavy cocaine use is not as debilitating as the withdrawal from opiates or benzodiazepines, it is still usually quite unpleasant. Often, individuals simply take more cocaine to reduce these effects, leading to a pattern of habituation, dependence, and addiction. Heavy, regular use of cocaine is known to cause restlessness, anxiety, hyperexcitability, paranoia, irritability, insomnia, weight loss, and a variety of other less acute psychological symptoms." (1)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Heroin - "One of the most problematic aspects of heroin is that it causes rapid tolerance and physical dependence. In combination with its euphoric effects, this leads many people to become addicted, having difficulty controlling their own use. Once physically dependent, discontinuation generally causes extremely unpleasant (but not life-threatening) withdrawal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, insomnia, diarrhea, and sweating. Major problems associated with repeated recreational use of heroin include loss of interest in other activities (a type of anhedonia), increase in amount of pain medications (especially opiates) needed for medical purposes, and side problems from over use of central nervous system depressants. The most commonly described long term problems associated with heroin are addiction, physical dependence, and compulsive behaviors related to addiction. Those addicted to heroin will often have lasting health complications not from the direct pharmacological effects of the drug itself, but from injuries, diseases, and traumas that occured as a result of intoxication and willingness to engage in risky behavior while high." (2)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I will concede that meth may be worse than tobacco, and that I exaggerated when I said tobacco was worse than ALL drugs, but I still stand by my point that it is one of the absolute worst. Tobacco - "Nicotine is highly toxic in humans at high doses and deaths have been caused by ingesting water that had cigarettes steeped in it. In non-tolerated users, 1-4 mg of nicotine can cause a sense of overstimulation, nausea, vertigo, and dysphoria. Nicotine poisonings occur from skin contact with tobacco plants, contact with nicotine-containing pesticides, after intentional oral ingestion (suicides), and young children accidentally eating tobacco products. The U.S. Center for Disease Control reports the "fatal human dose has been estimated to be about 50 to 60 mg. Although many of the health problems associated with tobacco products are related to smoking and other chemicals in the tobacco, nicotine is associated with a number of health problems when taken chronically. Nicotine causes vasoconstriction, increased heart rate, and increased blood pressure. Nicotine is widely regarded as one of the most addictive substances known." (3)

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Honestly, I can't reasonably fit the list of health effects of tobacco, so I'll just start throwing down some links. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Health_effects_of_tobacco http://www.cdc.gov/tobacco/basic_information/health_effects/index.htm Here are some links for cocaine. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cocaine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cocaine_intoxication http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2009/jun/13/bad-science-cocaine-study (1) http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/cocaine/cocaine_effects.shtml (2) http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/heroin/heroin_basics.shtml (3) http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/nicotine/nicotine_basics.shtml

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Honestly, this case isn't that goddamn hard to make. If you did your own fucking research, then I wouldn't be trying to prove shit to you. The information is available for all to see. At least I looked at the facts and considered what's happening before I started spewing bullshit like you. You can go die, the world doesn't need people as ignorant as you.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Dude, you must really be retarded to believe that I don't know tobacco is bad. I know the effects of all these drugs. All of the reasons you listed for first-hit deaths are precisely what make them so dangerous. None of those happen with tobacco. Any of these drugs could ruin your life in a week while tobacco takes 20+ years. First off, I think that most of the effects of the hard drugs sound worse than tobacco and also most of your facts were about nicotine and not tobacco. Maybe in the future, you should rely more on what you learn in textbooks rather than Wikipedia and other must-be-true Internet sources. If you really want proof, you should go find a cocaine dealer and start taking hits and I'll start cigs and we'll see who lasts longer. If you want to talk about ignorance, maybe there is a reason most people believe what they've been taught their entire lives over your wiki sources because they actually have some idea of how logic works.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Dude, you're either a complete motherfucking idiot or I'm being trolled hardcore right now. I can't even fathom how fucking dense you are. You obviously didn't read HALF the stuff I posted or linked to. Wikipedia isn't the only source I cited, dickwad. I also linked a page from the CDC, the motherfucking CDC, and you're saying they're not reputable? Erowid is widely known as one of the most reliable sources possible when it comes to drug information. You're one to talk about logic, seeing as you're using absolutely none. I'm high and sleep deprived, and I can still see clear as day that you're just being incredibly thick and stupid. Good day.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Oh wow...you listed one page from the CDC that has no comparison whatsoever between tobacco and other drugs. All it does is lost the effects that we all learned about in kindergarten (see first sentence of previous comment). Also all your erowid source did was list said effects of other drugs but offered no comparison. Also if you read the fine print of the disclaimer at the bottom, it says their information is gathered by USER research making the site no more qualified than Wikipedia. And once more, I don't see how any website trumps a textbook written by people who have PhDs on the topic and have dedicated their entire lives to learning about said topic. Obviously you don't know the definition of logic because that implies that you use sound reason and thinking skills (which Wikipedia says people who are high don't usually have) to arrive at a conclusion, not google searches. I also enjoyed some of the things in your bio like how you're very intelligent, don't get offended easily, and my favorite: how if anyone wants to argue with you about drugs they better bring their A game. I'm doing this in my bed from an iPod while eating a hot-pocket. You should reconsider your strengths

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Okay, after a bit of deliberation, I've come to the conclusion that you're just fucking with me. Nobody who makes such nonsensical arguments should be able to type a coherent sentence. Good job, I've never been trolled so hard in my life.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Thanks. U mad?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Nope, I can respect skills like that. Clever.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Now I'm trolling trololol

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I'm angry you used an Immortal Technique line to defend your anti-tobacco fiasco. Go get addicted to heroin, meth, or cocaine and tell me how it works out.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Cool, fuck you. I don't really give a shit what you have to say until you say something worth reading and replying to.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Alright what I'm saying is, if you can't provide real proof, I can't take you seriously. And I don't trust your statistics. Give me a double-blind, single variable research on this and I'll readily change my opinion.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Try looking it up yourself. You're on the internet just the same as I am. Look over some of the shit I just half-assed up there. I'm tired of trying to convince people that refuse to believe facts.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You kind of need to take into account that most likely a large portion of that 43% just use marijuana. And that doesn't really kill people. Most illegal drugs are much more dangerous in the short term and equally as dangerous in the long term.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

If you're still not convinced. Total, worldwide use of illegal drugs is estimated to cause 250,000 deaths per year. That's just over half of the deaths caused by tobacco in the U.S. alone. Stop being ignorant.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

those numbers are bullshit, too. don't know where you got them.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Now I can tell you're trolling, and thus retract my statement about being done replying to you. Love you. l

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah okay dude. WTF people always talk about trolls go take your teenage video game nerd shit elsewhere...back to the topic at hand, smoking.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

You're right, sir. I'm going to go change my life and find God. Perhaps I'll take up smoking while I'm at it!

by Anonymous 12 years ago

should

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I could rebuttle by questioning your, what I believe to be incorrect, statement. But I see it's already been done below. So I'm going to leave this alone.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Sooo, then your comment is completely pointless? You really just replied by telling me you're not going to reply? Cool story, bro.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

If you marry a non smoker don't be selfish..and if you have kids again don't be selfish!...other then that i don't mind..just don't come and smoke near my face if i was here first -___-

by Anonymous 12 years ago

This could also say ''You're not an idiot, amirite?''

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Yeah, you are.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I am not a tobacco smoker, but smoking cigarettes in no way makes you an idiot. It has nothing to do with intelligence. There are many people with high intellects that smoke tobacco. Even Einstein smoked a pipe.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

wrong...there's a negative connatation that people who smoke also make bad choices and are therefore stupid. So yes you and einstein are both idiots

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Oh. I get it. You're in character.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

And I don't smoke. Did you read the whole comment?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

you down voted so you obviously did so why lie now dude....plus i dont even think einstein smoked...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I upvoted... Also, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yj33-xWnVdw

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Maybe not intelligence, but choices. Smoking ultimately has more negative consequences than positive ones, so it's not the smartest of choices

by Anonymous 12 years ago

A pack a day keeps the liberal, tree-hugging hippies away

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I feel like there is no reason to ever start smoking in today's time, but I have sympathy for anyone trying to quit.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

INB4 controversy because one person said "I never will" OHWAIT.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I don't like it when you just try one cigarette and people have a rant about lung cancer and bad breathe, i have tried it, because you don't know until you try, and are never going to do it again...like chill?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I don't think smoking is great (obviously). It's expensive, unhealthy, makes you smell like smoke constantly, and it doesn't really make you feel good unless you ARE addicted. However, I don't think it's the worst bloody thing in the world like people make it out to be.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Someone asked me for a lighter just when I was reading this post...

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I have smoked a cigar for my roommates 18th birthday. It was disgusting and I never plan on smoking again. I agree with daniel_james that the "holier than thou" attitude is wrong.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I smoked like 2 puffs of a cigar once, does that count?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

I wouldn't say so. They're very different.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Cigarettes < Marijuana

by Anonymous 11 years ago

The idea of smoking seriously grosses me out. I'm not the healthiest person around, but after knowing negative effects of smoking, I just don't think it's worth it. I try not to judge people for it, but I must admit I find it quite silly someone would take up smoking after knowing the health risks. Of course, for those who are addicted, I completely symphathise.

by Anonymous 11 years ago
