+252 There should be slightly stricter laws on adopting a pet, because it's horrible when a family or someone buys a puppy or a kitten simply because it's cute or to impress their children, but when the pet actually grows up and isn't so "cute" anymore, it just gets neglected or even abandoned. amirite?

Couldn't agree more. People who abandon or neglect their pets make me sick, especially if it's because they aren't 'cute' anymore. My dog was abandoned on the side of the road when she was a puppy and she's the best dog I've ever had. Better than any $1,000 pooch my parents ever got.

That's horrible :( My grandpa once found a kitten abandoned on the side of a highway. Some people need to realise that buying a pet is a commitment, not something you do for a while then get rid of it when you feel like it!

Yeah, like my sister >=( she doesn't abandon her pets on the side of the road but she gives them away when they become a "burden". Her and I butt heads so much on this subject.

Exactly. I also wish pet stores would stop selling baby chicks around Easter. A whole bunch of people buy them because they are so cute, but the minute they grow up, they are abandoned. The pet store across the street from me does this -_-

WTF?! Pet stores actually do that? I thought that the people who worked at pet stores actually cared about animals.

I could rant about this for a very long time... My aunt is a huge animal lover, and she fosters cats and dogs for the pound. She winds up keeping the unadoptable ones, and that's a lot. It's so sad. One of the dogs used to be a mother in a puppy mill, and she really doesn't like people at all. She always keeps a toy in her mouth as her baby, because she always got her real puppies yanked away from her before they really should have been. The biggest problem are these trend dogs, like when 101 dalmations came out everyone wanted one, or a little while ago when labradoodles were big. People think "Oh that's so cute" and they go to these breeders and spend tons of money on a dog and then find out they can't really handle it and put it in a shelter. No one wants fully grown animals, they want puppies and kittens, so most of those animals have to be put to sleep. It's so sad. I really wish people would learn more about this kind of stuff before they got a pet.

What's the point of replying with that? I didn't mean for the comment to be a short funny comment. It's long because it matters.
