There's African and European names, but I have to agree for black people and white people names. For example, I know a black kid named Julius. If that's not a "white" name then I don't know what is.

Well I was thinking of Romans and Julius Caesar xD. But honestly, I'll list off names of people I know and tell me if you can tell whether they're black or white: Olivia, Matt, Victoria, Brandon, Jason

I think that some names are used by all different people, simply because they are common names that caught on quickly. But other names, such as Shaqueefa or Lance, are typically associated with a certain race.

What would Lance be associated with?

I've generally thought of Lance of the name of a medieval knight, so like a rich white kid.

I think of Julius Caesar whenever I hear that name, but there's also Julius from RtT like you mentioned and Julius from Everybody Hates Chris, which shows that a name can apply to any race and you shouldn't be able to assume someone's race purely based on their name.

I truly think that stereotyping is very wrong. Names should have nothing to do with race, and you shouldn't be able to assume "Oh, this person named ____ is black/white/asian/whatever race."

That's not what I meant at all. All I was saying was that you shouldn't assume what someone's race is just by hearing their name, like when someone might think "Jamal? Black person. Steve? White person." Even if they are correct, I believe that that is stereotyping and stereotyping is wrong.

You're totally missing my point. Yes, certain names are more common among certain races/nationalities, so it is more likely that "Lee-Chung Hu" is Asian, but there's no reason Lee-Chung Hu can't be white, black, or any race.

I wouldn't say it was "black or white people names", more just the country or culture they were born into has some typical names that people relate to it. For example I would say Madison and Cody were really American names because I never meet people in England who are called that, but black and white people could equally have those names.

I know black kids Fantasia and a Messiah... I know white kids named Josephine and Eleanor... I see what you mean. They exist, but not all black people have "black" names and not all white people have "white" names.

Yeah there's a definite difference. The book Freakonomics devotes a full chapter to the names of different cultures. There is also a substantial difference between the names of people of upper and lower class backgrounds.

Of course there are. Names reflect culture. Mineko is a Japanese name. Athena is a Greek name. Veronique is a French name.
As for 'white people names', I suppose you mean names most common to people in Europe?

A lot of names can be used for different races but names like Thembi, Nozipho, Lukanyiso, etc. are definitely black-people only.
