Movie:okay Book:awesome

Well...personally I found the book to be a bore. I mean once you start reading college-level novels, this was a 5th grade read. Nice plot and such, however it really resembled Battle Royale in a more "elementary" setting. No offense.

I do read college level novels and found the books to be amazing.

You don't sound pretentious at all.

If you're talking about the movie, then I thought it was a worthy adaptation. The actors and the setting was perfect, but there were some parts that were just like "eh," especially the development between Katniss and Rue. And if you mean the books then the first one I thought was amazing. It went downhill after that.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

In the movie I didn't like Rue at all. Hahah.

by Anonymous 12 years ago

Oh haha I thought she was adorable, but their relationship was so fast. The whole thing only lasted about ten minutes but it was an important part of the novel.

I hated the book. :/

I thought the first book was great, but the other two were a let down.

I just found it extremely dull. All the action happened away from her and the little bit she did witness needed far more detail to catch my attention. Not to mention it was waaay below my reading level which just bored me. It might have been better if it was from many peoples perspectives rather than just hers, plus more detail.

The movie was heavily underwhelming. I just kept waiting for something totally BA to happen and it never did. There were little details that might have seemed inconsequential but added a lot to the books. Like Clove calling out to Cato to save her, but he was too far away trying to get Peeta. Or how about the part where we see that Katniss' love for Peeta was fake and only for show. Also, why could Haymitch send letters? wtf, that's bunk, it's basically allowing a mentor to tell a tribute what's gonna happen to them. Maybe a code was worked out, where certain words meant certain danger. Bull crap, that part was to prove that Haymitch and Katniss understand each other. Also they didn't play up to the fact that Gale might have feelings for Katniss which is, unfortunately, the focus of Book 2 (still my favorite, with the quarter quell). The careers sounded like drunk jocks, there wasn't nearly enough confrontation and battles, we got to see no thoughts of any characters, the movie was really long yet didn't seem to focus on any of the parts enough. Also there was no Madge, who was Katniss' only friend basically. Sorry I'll stop ranting. In short, I was disappointed.

The cornucopia was just really stupid, sorry I know it's superficial but that ugly hunk of geometric metal was so fucking stupid looking. Marvel (District 1 male) had this smug and retarded look on his face the whole time, I'm not even kidding, everytime the camera panned over him my audience snickered. We went between making fun of him and that curly haired angel from District 4. Also, my theatre thought haymitch was hilar ^_^. Anyways. I wish Cato had suffered for longer (though I did like the part where he struggled to just prove to his parents that he was worth something and that he wanted pride for his district, to prove he could be the best at the only thing he worked for, for his entire life, he was a complex character), and say "please..." so that we could see Katniss show a compassionate side. Basically all we saw was street Katniss, totally hardened by life Katniss. But that was a moment where the audience thinks "wait a minute, these are all scared kids! This is a tragedy that they are sent out here to die and kill. The've lost their innocence. Oh my god what am i watching?" They could have done it way better. The mutts didn't even look like the tribtes *eyeroll*

The relationship with Rue was really sweet, but it seemed so fast, they did not develop the relationship at all. If they had shown them talking more at the training centre/games, then maybe I would have liked it more. Why was the girl who played Clove like 2 ft tall and 10 years old? She's a career? I don't think so. I mean, Cato was the only "career," Glimmer was a dunce, Clove was a child and Marvel was retarded so.. they were not as intimidating as they were meant to be. I think many of these problems could have been solved with a Katniss narration. I mean, in the books that is how we get to know everything that happens. All of the parts that were difficult to do correctly (her relationship with rue, peeta, haymitch, her mom, and prim) could have been done a lot lot better and would seem less forced, and her actions less arbitrary. Also the shaky camera work? So melodramatic, this is not the Blair witch project, okay, it just got on my nerves after a while. I mean it wasn't all bad, there were some pretty good parts. But knowing that this was in the works for a year and this is what we get.. really just disheartening. And to know that SuCo worked heavily on it. wow.

I will however say that the Capital was done pretty well, but for some reason it still had this drab feeling, like the districts had (the ambiance of the districts was done well, but it felt like it took place in an Amish/Mormon cult society at many parts). But I felt like the ambiance of the Capital could have been more cheery and more extremely opposite the districts and more so beautiful that there is no way it is all real, the way it was in the book. Also, I wanted Glimmer's death scene to be more symbolic. Basically she lost the one thing she had worked for, her beauty. She was supposedly one of the most stunning girls ever (bad casting unfortunately) and what she thought would get her through the games was just destroyed. It was supposed to be symbolic I thought and really sad. Effie was brilliant though, I must say Things I liked: Effie (THAT.. is mahongany XD), Haymitch, Prue, Rue(just realized how similar their names are O.o), Gale, Rue's death scene, the tracker jacker scene (besides Glimmer), Rue stealing the knife, D11 rebelling, Cato's depth, Thresh's kindness, gamemaker studio, Seneca's assumed death, P. Snow's creeptasticness. Wow, sorry for ranting.... *sheepish*

I also loved the training arena, the rooftop scene, the interview place and the hotel that they stayed in (JUST HOW I IMAGINED IT! :) And I really loved FF's character, her sly cunningness. I liked that her and Kat ran into each other at the beginning but neither wanted to fight, her evasiveness was really cool. I wish that the feast scene was done better; right when the table went up, she dashed out; and Katniss inner monologue would talk about how she was always ahead of the rest of them, always smarter The blowup the food scene was awesome, her deafness was done really well, and you could feel the tension when Kat went to go check and the third fire wasn't lit, and you could really feel the fear there, and you felt scared too. And it totally made sense when she got scared for Peeta later. But with regards to that scene, was the dude keeping watch deaf himself? How did he not hear FF? I fucking heard her, and why did she not fall? Sorry detail-minded One more thing they should have emphasized was the fact that kat realized that the Capital was never gonna let them both live. That realization of the cruelness of the capital and how far they will go for entertainment. chilling.

God everytime I think I'm done, I have one more thing to say... sorry. Did anyone think that Cato looked like he wanted to forcefully have his way with Kat? Anyone? Seriously those leering, lip licking looks (alliteration <3) were mildly perturbing. Everytime you saw Cato he was giving her a sketchy look. I also wish more of the tributes and their specialties were shown for a longer time. And Cato and Peeta looked like twins. I had this little movie short (maybe they could play it after the credits?) where Kat finds a blonde boy hunched over on the ground "PEETA!" she shouts, "I finally found you" *exasperated sigh* "I was so worri-" The blonde boy turns around and it's not Peeta, but his long lost twin Cato! Cato takes his devilishly long sword to go along with his devilishly good looks and slices Kat to death! Then has his way with her dead body. I sincerely apologize, but at this point I am shitfaced drunk and I am really happy that I remembered to go anon.

So Lisa didn't like the movie

I can't believe people wrote paragraphs on a children's book. Please. Pick up something by Noam Chomsky or Leon Trotsky, then tell me about your life story and how it relates to the Hunger Games.
