+374 It's okay to want to have a traditional relationship with old fashioned chivalry and housewifery. It is also okay to want a full on equal relationship. While we all may have different opinions, relationships are personal things and as long as no one is being abused, we should all accept each other's preferences, amirite?

So I should be able to bitchsmack my girlfriend for not making me a sandwhich without it being "domestic violence" because it's how we agree our relationship should be?

Can you read? OP said that it's fine "as long as no-one is being abused".

Well said.

Are people arguing this?

Yeah. I've had previous boyfriends that were talked down to because they didn't do things like open the door for me, and boyfriends who were talked down to because they would do things like open the door for me, because of what someone else's expectations of what a relationship should be. I've had friends talk down to me, because my boyfriend will tell me that my make up doesn't look good if I ask him, and they think a guy should lie and tell a girl she is always pretty. Pretty much everyone I know has, at least once, had someone tell them their relationship wasn't "right".
