+219 There should not be maternity leaves in high school, amirite?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

If a girl is very much pregnant and can't come to school, there's no reason to risk herself and the baby by coming to school.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

But it's her fault if she got pregnant, which no high school-ers should. I'm not saying maternity leaves shouldn't be allowed, I'm saying they shouldn't be needed in the first place.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Maybe it's not her fault :O Nah, it probably is. But kids in high school can be up to 21 years old, and humans have sex. Sometimes sex gets you pregnant. I'm not saying it's right, I'm just saying it's not wrong either.

True, maybe it's just our society that's messed up. In older civilizations, people normally got married and had kids in their mid-late teens.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yes, but life spans are longer and kids are staying with their parents longer too. So it would only make sense that they mature at a slower rate, rather than nature's usual "live fast, reproduce young, make millions of babies" method.

i like how the user "a_fetus" upvoted your comment :P

Same with abortions

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Completely unnecessary comment. All you are going to do is start up the same debates we've all seen countless times before. I don't even understand why because I think we all know that it never changes anyone's mind. You almost got me going there for a minute too.

What?

Same with abortions

It's also the "fault" of a woman in her early thirties, starting a family, who also has a career. Should she also be denied maternity leave, because it's "her fault"?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

We are talking about high school students here, who don't have any of those things. Of course the woman that you describe deserves maternity leave, but it shouldn't be necessary for 14-18 year olds.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

That's like saying that someone's who's had a drug overdose should still have to come into school.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

lol, no it's not.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Well it sort of is. The drug overdose was their fault, so why shouldn't they have to come into school?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

The drug overdose does not involve taking care of a developing human being nor does it last 9 months.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Maternity leave doesn't last 9 months, and a drug overdose sort of requires you to not die, and you're sort of a human being. It's not like I said "being pregnant is the same as a drug overdose".

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yes but you were comparing maternity leave and drug overdosing. "Sort of" is not a very good defense. Either way, drug overdosing usually only effects you. Being on maternity leave effects another innocent person.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

So what you're saying is that someone deserves maternity leave more than they deserve to go to a hospital from a drug overdose?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

My sister substitutes and she told me that one day a girl said she had to take the baby bus. My sister thought she mean't the, you know, "short" bus..but no, literally, the bus for underage mothers so they can go take care of their kids...

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Sure. Let's let women in labor have their babies in economics.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Where I live, if you're pregnant in highschool you go to adult school or independent studies. It's not really "maternity leave", because everyone has the option to do independent studies or adult school. A lot of girls get pregnant in my school. It's not even really acknowledged anymore.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Maternity leave for students or for staffs?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I was going to ask: 'Does this count for the teachers as well?'

by Anonymous 11 years ago

This is just wrong. Who cares if they're too young to get pregnant? Think about the health and well-being of the girl and the child. It wouldn't be fair to not let a mother or expecting mother take maternity leave just because she's "too young".

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Why should it even concern you? You're not the one with the baby and you're not the one who needs time off from school to take care of it. This is just stupid.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

There shouldn't have to be. But babies really need the attention from their mothers.
