Hmm.... These both seem, in my opinion, to stem from another "ism". Favoritism. Be it favoritizing your race, gender, age group, social class etc. I'm thinking perhaps favoritism may be truly the father and the most vicious of all the most troubling "isms"

Communism is not a "bad" ism. Whether it would work in practice or not is something that can be debated. (Post-industrial communism has never actually existed, and almost every society that claims to be communist practices varieties of socialism, which is supposed to be the transition from capitalism to communism.) There are many different kinds of socialism, some of which are closer to being authoritarian in policy, and some which are more democratic. True socialism cannot really exist unless there is democracy and freedom of expression, which Friedrich Engels said is "the air it needs to breathe."

I think it's bad even in theory. A world where nobody can separate themselves in status through hard work is a distopic society to me. Besides, people would need something other than personal gain to motivate them to work hard, and the only solution anybody's come up with so far is using fear to get people to work. Either that, or they probably won't work at all. Governments have proven time and time again incapable of rationing out //all// the formerly commercial goods. Putting all your collective thoughts into one mind will only give it a headache, while everyone else will face different problems. Even if it isn't as bad in theory as in practice, it's not worth trying because I believe there are governments out there that have actually been able to function that are much, much better than communism
