-338 People with mental illnesses (depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, etc.) and ESPECIALLY psychotic disorders should not be allowed to have kids, amirite?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

That's unfair. Its not their fault they have some sort of disorder. I wouldnt be here if that were so.

So I have Agoraphobia and OCD with Paranoia and I'm a fully functional human being who takes prescribed medication and would make a wonderful mother with my boyfriend of five and a half years.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

There's such thing as medication.

Get the fuck out.

No one is born free from problems. This is especially insulting to me because my parents both had anxiety and depression and I have schizophrenia. I believe I am allowed to have children. Besides, are you trying to create a problem-free "perfect" society? This sounds vaguely Nazi-ish.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Just wondering, what symptoms have you been dealing with as a person with schizophrenia?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I face not the voices in my head version of schizophrenia, but the paranoia version. As in, I have trouble in deciphering whatever I see to be real or not. I often believe everyone around me is not who they say they are. But the question remains what they might be. Like, perhaps they are aliens who have disguised themselves as humans and are observing me to discover how real humans lived their lives. Or maybe everyone on this planet are video game characters who are being controlled individually by people of another universe. The list goes on and on. All in all, if you want to know more about the voice in the head version of schizophrenia, I'm not your guy. But if you want to learn more about the paranoid schizophrenia, you can message me, and I'll answer any questions you may have.

I'm sorry. You're anonymous. Well, if you do have an account, you can still message me. If not, I don't mind talking about it right here. But still, chances are you wanted to talk about the voice in the head kind of schizophrenia. If that is the case, could you let me know?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I actually didn't know that there were two kinds, both intrigue me equally. When you say that you question whether the people talking to you are actual humans, do you actually believe that all the way? or is it just a haunting feeling that won't go away, yet you're "sane" enough not to do anything drastic about it, or freak out? Btw, has it affected your life immensely, like are you able to make friends? And would I realize your schizophrenia if I just met you on the street and started talking to you?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yeah. And neither should people with heart problems, high cholesterol, asthma, and also fat people. It only makes sense guys. C'mon.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

And Gingers. Who do they think they are, going around reproducing like they're people?!

by Anonymous 11 years ago

genetics is only a small factor in mental disorders

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I dont think the postr was talking about passing the illness on. I think it was more like preventing kids from having a bad home life. That would explain why the poster said "ESPECIALLY psychotic disorders".

by Anonymous 11 years ago

If that were to take affect, people would cease to reproduce at all before long

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Fuck. You. My best friend has depression and social anxiety order and she is the most LOVING and CARING person I have EVER met. You're ignorant.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Wrong. Unless the illness causes violent fits and such, things that could harm a kid, then people with mental disorders are perfectly capable of raising a child. The ignorance of some people saddens me.

You might not hear this over the sound of your audacity and ego - and this post was so offensive I half-think it's a troll - but my dad has an anxiety disorder and he's the best fucking dad I could have asked for. He was always sensitive to what I was thinking and feeling, he was always strong when I needed somebody to turn to, he was always doing what he could to make me happy. I'm not going to pretend that I'm never upset with my dad, but I do love him and I wholeheartedly believe he's a better dad than any other man I've met. And besides- he never made me feel stupid for being scared. I get scared easily, and he was always the one who got up at two in the morning to sit with me until I fell asleep again, to remind me that everything's okay and I am loved. I don't know what your experiences with mental disorders have been - I assume negative ones, and I'm sorry for that - but you have to understand that not everybody is the same. I ended up with an extremely loving family and I'm really, really grateful for that. I think it's all right. Why don't you go out and meet some more people with disorders before you make a hurtful claim like this?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Except I think you're forgetting that anyone can have a disorder, even if their parents do not have one. There are always mutations in genes so even if a perfectly healthy society were created, disorders would regardless arise after a short period of time... also fuck you

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Are you fucking serious? So just because I have a disorder that I can't control, I should be denied the right to have a family? I have borderline personality disorder and with the right medication and a therapist, I am a fully functioning human being. My disorder does not define me as a person and will not hinder my goals for the future, including starting a family.

Everyone has the right to persue happiness regardless of there perceptual difference (i know that people call it an illness or disorder but I don't feel right labeling my friends and family) it's a basic human right that everyone deserves.

by Anonymous 10 years ago

That's not fair.
