-561 You think porn should be banned, amirite?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

If you up vote or down vote please state why you think so! I really learn everyone's perspective on that subject.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Because I don't understand why it should. It doesn't harm me, and it doesn't harm other people. Why does it need to be banned? Because it shows nudity? Then why not make medical images illegal, or R-rated movies? I just don't see a legitimate reason for the banning of porn. If a parent's bothered by it, just block those sites in their house. Of course they might see it elsewhere, but they need to realize they can't protect them forever.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

There is so much more to pornography and the porn industry rather than just nudity. Porn comprises of material that crosses fantasy-reality boundary and normalizes aberrant sexual behavior. And how accessible it is, whether to minors or 18+ isn't a victimless crime as it seems. Porn creates this image of sex that ordinary sex rarely lives up to; most of the acts performed in porn aren't even on the table for partners, also women struggle to be as attractive as those in porn and even men might seem 'not as manly' to their partner who watches porn for not keeping it up as long. All of which can be rather disappointing to both partners, as their fantasies or expectancies in sex life isn't fullfiled leading to unhappy sex life or even divorce at times. Adding on, it might have an effect in eliminating romance from sex and encourages shallow relationships just for sex. Moreover, porn degrades men and women alike, yet that billion dollar industry contributes in human trafficking, sex enslavement and objectifying attitudes towards the opposite sex.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I actually agree with everything you said, and those are the reasons porn can be bad, BUT I don't think it should be banned. It can have some unfortunate effects like anything can, but it also makes a lot of people happy haha.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I definitely agree with you that porn is degrading and unrealistic. But as much as I dislike the ideas that a lot of porn puts forth, I also really hate the idea of censorship. In a free society, you can't ban something just because it's offensive to some people.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

As for the fantasies thing, those aren't legal issues. Just because something breaks couples up doesn't mean it should be illegal. If that were the case, romance novels would have to be illegal because basically no one lives up to those standards. Degradation, too. That's not basis for the government to ban it. I feel like without legal porn, the sex trafficking business would be bigger. Porn makers would make extremely large profits it were illegal from illegal buyers. And since no one will want to be an actor, they'll have to kidnap people. This is like a lot of things that are illegal, like drugs or prostitution. The more illegal it is, the more money the dealer will make. The more money, the more greed, and the more people forced to do things. If porn stayed legal, the money will go to legal companies hiring people legally and safely.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I realise it has no legal implications whatsoever, yet that doesn't mean it can't be banned. It could be a step to te benefit of a healthier society. Just like many proactive legal actions taken by the government. As for the porn industry, if the law in enacted and enforced, it will keep the downsides to the minimum. Just like in the legalising drugs argument, yes people still do drugs, but if it's legal the people who only refrained from doing so because of its legality will be willing to try it more.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

5 simple words: what would i dap to?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Porn shows that you can put a price on dignity. And why should all of society be affected by a ban because some people are overly self-conscious? It's as simple as //not viewing porn// if it causes problems in your life. It's called self-control. Just because some people don't have self-control, it doesn't mean the rest of society should have to give up porn.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It has nothing to do with self control. I'm looking at it from another perspective, where porn affects the society as a whole. One person doing something seems insignificant, but a lot of them will definitely will have an effect on the society.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I don't quite understand how porn affects society as a whole. I mean, if people truly have a things against porn and don't wish to view it, then it's that simple: don't watch it. The same goes for the people that //do// want to watch porn. Watching porn in someone's own home does not, in any way, harm the rest of society, so I don't see how that could be the equivilant of harming the entire society. It is for viewing pleasure and personal use. It doesn't run the government or how things work.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

OP, your whole argument is basically, "It's offensive to people," or "It's creates unrealistic standards." That's stupid. Stop. Just let people do what they want.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

TailsTurrosaki: wow you are a master of debate. "That's stupid. Stop." I mean, who could disagree with that? Why did no one tell this to Hitler? we could have prevented the Holocaust, people.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Fine I guess I'll "explain" myself. Being offended means nothing. It's an emotion. It doesn't give you a one way ticket to freedom nor does it allow you block people's rights. Standards are also destroyed when you're not a superficial sheep. You can get rid of mental standards by just looking at other things or making new friends that don't pester you.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Anon who is that even directed to? This new way of replying is shitty.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Ah, I gotcha. Still though, I liked the older way of replying. I shouldn't have to manually direct who I'm talking to.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

OP I agree with most of what you're saying about how porn is unrealistic and how it certainly isn't a victimless industry. You are totally right about "yet that billion dollar industry contributes in human trafficking, sex enslavement and objectifying attitudes towards the opposite sex." But banning isn't the solution, hence I clicked on 'no way'. Totally agree with (spare seconds) on how that will create more problems rather than curb them.Someone said something about more sex ed focus rather than banning focus.. really good point! We need to pump up the positive aspects to fight negetive ones! That's the mark of a mature society. Banning doesn't work.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It shouldn't be banned because that would infringe on the liberties of citizens.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Exactly. Thank you. That is the only argument that needs to be made here, the rest becomes irrelevant after that fact.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

^ "It doesn't harm me, and it doesn't harm other people. Why does it need to be banned?" -SpareSeconds on porn.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It's none of the government's business. Quite regardless of whether or not it would stop porn, or what it may or may not do to society, it's none of the government's business. People have the right to do what they want. I'll use alcohol as an example. You can easily argue that it's incredibly detrimental to society as well. However, people have the right to do it none the less. People argued that in the 1910's before the prohibition, and all that did was bring about the mob and bring it amazing power. People still drank. People still got drunk and did stupid things. People would still look at porn. More importantly than the ineffectiveness such a law would have, though, is that that is not the government's job.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

The problem when you get into drugs like alcohol and cocaine and stuff like that is that potentially it could hurt people, like it would cause people to become violent, or accidentally harm others. I do think most drugs should be legalized, but that's one of the reason the "citizen's freedom" argument can be rebutted.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

While we're at it, we should ban sunshine and rainbows and kittens and the smell of a new pack of Pokemon cards and everything else wonderful in the world.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

...kittens? D:

by Anonymous 11 years ago

The smell of a new pack of Pokemon cards. Yes.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Well people in the porn industry only want to make money because, maybe they are a dead beat or, something like that but anyways it shouldn't be banned because, 1/4 of the world are in porn and some only because of bad teachings and, some because they need the best for themselves or their family. Also they get paid alot. If you think it should be banned go ahead but the only way it would or should bother you is if YOU watch it.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Porn has also been linked to the decrease of rape: http://rawstory.com/news/2006/Porn_up_rape_down_0922.html

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Porn is better than prostitutes.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

There is actually a legal brothel somewhere in like Texas or Utah or whatever.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I meant it's better in terms of not catching disease from porn not the legality of it.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Actually, if prostitution is legalised, there are little to no chance of spreading STDs.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Do you support prostitustion over porn? Or are you just saying that?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I'm just saying that, merely addressing the point. :)

by Anonymous 11 years ago

How are you so sure that prostitutes are 100% clean of STIs?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Lets say we have brothels like in Nevada, where prostitutes will be taxed, have a good health security (I'm not sure what it is called), with of course regulation from the government who will set health standards to the brothel. Most likely, prostitutes will check for STDs monthly and have safe sex according to the standards.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

There are brothels in Nevada. Prostitution is legalized there.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Like I said, I was talking in terms of not catching anything not how legal one is over the other.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

mchalla3 mentioned it and I was clarifying.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

lol "no offense" i dont think anybody on here is a prostitute

by Anonymous 11 years ago

@That_Crazy_Girl As part of the legalization of brothels in Nevada, the women are required to do testing (much like pornstars) every so often and each customer is required to be tested. They also use condoms. Sure it's not a 100% guarantee that a disease won't slip up, but don't say they don't try to be safe.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Also, the competition between different "Prostitution Service Companies" will lead to providing better healthcare to their employees. They wouldn't want to ruin their reputation now, would they?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

If it offends you... Don't watch it. It is as simple as that.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Lol, it doesn't offend me personally. I'm talking about a community scale. If it offends me, I won't watch it.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Actually it's not as simple as that. Even if someone chooses not to watch porn, their significant other might choose otherwise, which could affect their relationship together.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

There are lots of other things their significant other could do that could affect their relationship as well, but that doesn't mean those things should be banned. It just means you should be able to trust your significant other not to do those things, and don't do those things to your significant other. Hurt feelings is not a reason to ban something.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I think it should be banned if we lived in a society where people didn't break the law. Just like with drugs like marijuana, it can be safer and better-regulated if it is legal. I absolutely hate drugs and porn more than anything in the world, but I'd rather it be legal and regulated than illegal and dangerous.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Can you please explain how will drugs and porn will be dangerous? :)

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Drugs can lead to addiction, sketchy deals, sketchy gangs, and murder. If the porn industry goes illegal, there could end up being trafficking and multi million dollar scandals.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I made a reply above to spareseconds that I feel addresses this point. I'm sorry, laziness!

by Anonymous 11 years ago

You can take our land. You can take our lives. But you will never take... OUR POOOOORN!

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Some people actually went down to the streets, and said stuff along those lines when our parliament wanted to ban porn. Weird enough, I was against it because I felt in our case it was a way to censor our Internet rather than a proactive act.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Another point, if we ban porn we're pretty much banning sex or promiscuity that isn't hushed. This would be a serious infringement of freedom. It just shows sex is so taboo that we literally need to make seeing it illegal. Why? I just don't understand the big deal about porn that makes it so detrimental to society. People aren't going to remain virgins forever, and porn doesn't make people start having sex at age 4. People aren't going to start humping on the streets and no one's going to die of porn-related stress. If anything, better sex education. Point: sex is normal and legal. Seeing it doesn't make your internal organs combust, therefore it is okay.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

But... but then I'd have to study!

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Because I'd be out of a job.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I like to pleasure myself to it. that's why it should be legal

by Anonymous 11 years ago

The internet is made for PORN!

by Anonymous 11 years ago

We should also ban breathing

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Why do you think the net was born? PORN, PORN, PORN.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Those are all very good reasons. Especially the second one.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

What would the punishment be for watching porn? I feel like outlawing porn would have the same effect as anti-sodomy laws-- none. There is hardly any way to enforce a law that outlaws porn. There would be a black market of amateur porn making millions of dollars a year. As it now now, the tax dollars from the sale of porn and the income taxes of porn stars is a rather sizable amount. This might be a big leap, but I see outlawing porn hurting the economy.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I think in some way it reduces the amount of rapists... if they wanna see a naked woman they can go watch porn. Just assuming.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

People don't rape people because they're horny and wanna see someone naked. They rape because they're weird ass mother fuckers and usually the rapist does it as a control/power thing.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

(colebowl) Lol thanks for clearing that point ... it's funny how some people are naive enough to think rape may have something to do with nudity and hornyness literally ! ... not trying to be mean here (purple zebra) just saying =)

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Well if there's no way they can see it anywhere else won't they go and do it themselves?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I might agree if porn was the only way a person could be educated on sex, and they were unable to talk to their partner about what they do and don't like in the bedroom. Porn is for recreation, not education, and if someone watches porn to learn about what girls are into in the bedroom, then let's be honest, we don't //want// this person to be satisfying in the bedroom, because we don't //want// people to have sex with them, because we //really do not want// to risk this person making tiny, even more retarded, versions of themself.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Do you watch porn? Rashed?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

How irrelevant. Lol and no I don't.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

On the topic of marriages, don't you think that sort of topic should come up before you marry? Even if it doesn't, I'd assume you have a general idea on your partner's morals and ideas... if you don't want your partner to watch porn but you don't say that up front before a marriage, then porn isn't really 'hurting a marriage', then is it? It's the lack of communication in a marriage or partnership...

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Not only is there nothing wrong with porn, banning porn would do absolutely nothing. Even if America bans porn, the majority of countries won't, and you'll be able to easily find foreign porn. Anyone who agrees porn should be banned is easily offended and doesn't understand how the world works.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I in no way pointed out America in specific, for I for that matter am not American. I meant it in a more general way about all countries. Not everyone here is American, BTW.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Alright, let's say you're from England. The point still applies. If England bans porn, the vast majority of other countries won't follow.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Again, I was talking in general, like users wherever you are you would rather have porn banned. But I see what you are saying and I agree. Ofc, the government could block all porn websites, but that is too much censorship.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Oh, wow. I read this wrong at first, and I thought it said, "pork should be banned" and I was like, WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU? But then I reread it after reading some comments and was like, wow I'm stupid. Anyway, I voted no, because I think it would cause such an uproar and it wouldn't be worth it. Unless it's child porn, but is that already banned right? Sorry, not really up on my porn stats.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

My view of this is the same as that on abortion and gay marriage: if you don't like it, don't have one/watch it.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yes, let's ban porn. Porn is offensive, you know! I'm also offended by people who eat meat. We should ban meat, too! What about people who don't wear shoes in public? Disrespectful! How dare they! Let's make that against the law. And I don't want my daughter marrying a man five years older than her! Are you insane!? Let's create age limits, too! While we're at it, can we also ban cars? Sometimes I look at cars in a weird way and the light shines into my eyes and it hurrrts! They should be illegal!

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Oh, okay. I see you don't agree, which is okay ofc. But that doesn't mean you can assume whatever you want about how I reached my opinion or why I think so. I'm not offended by porn, nor nudity. I don't have to be offended by something to think it should banned, or we are better off as a society without it.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Your opinion doesn't even matter. You're telling people what to do and infringing on their rights for something that is basically harmless. That's wrong on its own. Besides, you know much jobs are in the porn industry? You know how large the unemployment rate would be if porn was banned? You know how sexually deprived people would be? Believe it or not, porn is a good thing. I've never heard a valid reason for people being against porn other than, "It's against my religion!" "It's 'sexist'!" "It creates unrealistic standards!" So fucking what?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

-giggles inappropriately- hehe http://ctrlv.in/92666

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Pros: Less misongyny. Cons: Unemployment, less pleasure, more depression. Meh.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

. . . depression?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Think of life w/out porn... depressed yet?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It's lust. sex was created to be between a married man and woman... society has perverted it to be anything but.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

How does porn make society go from sex being between a man and a woman to something else?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

i really doubt sex was created just to be between a married man and woman considering marriage was something humans invented and people have been having sex since forever...

by Anonymous 11 years ago

God created it. But since that argument is probably not valid to you.. I still think porn is morally wrong.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

well i actually do believe in God. but not everyone does so you shouldn't push your beliefs on others by saying porn should be illegal. and if you still think it's morally wrong just don't watch porn? why do you care if someone else watches it or is involved in it

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Ugh. How in the world was she pushing her beliefs in anyone?? She's stating her opinion just like everyone else on this post. Because she mentioned God it automatically makes it pushy? And by your logic, if you think drug dealing is wrong, just don't deal drugs? If you think stealing is wrong, just don't steal?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

How am I pushing my beliefs? I stated my opinion

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I didn't see the married part at first. Anyway, no, sex wasn't created to be between that. Sex wasn't really created.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

My point: Why should we have any laws then? If you don't want to do it, just don't! Right?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I neither disagreed nor agreed with this post, I was just pointing out the flaw in your argument

by Anonymous 11 years ago

'Cause I enjoy porn.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Personally, I don't see much point in porn, but others who I know do. If porn was banned, it would turn into alcohol in the 1920's. It would still exist, you can't stop it, so why bother trying?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I think they should get it off the Internet and if people still really want it they could buy an old fashion DVD or something. Having porn on the Internet makes it accessible to everyone including children that are more likely to be highly influenced by it. Also, porn is very addictive and if said children watch it it could cause problems in their social being if it leads to and addiction. So keep it only accessible to adults.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

But that's different from banning it. in that case we'll need to ban the internet because there's a lot there that can't be seen by kids.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

One does not simply //ban// pornography.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

If it wasn't for porn, I'd have gone insane from testosterone long ago and killed everyone.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I don't know about you guys. But I fucking love porn.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

me too omg. Masturbation is healthy for reducing stress y

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Ah, you're that guy from before right? To continue our debate: This is the problem with Islam. It has no concept of freedom. It places more emphasis on the "clan" or "tribe" than on the individual. If you don't like porn, don't watch it, period. Like with before, don't like abortions, don't get them. (I realize it looks like i'm dragging your religion into everything, but it is relevant..)

by Anonymous 11 years ago

No, actually you aren't. You just assumed I'm a Muslim, I stated something I knew about Islam, that is all, doesn't make me much of anything. Honestly, my opinion about porn wasn't influenced by religion be it Christianity or Islam, that is why I never mentioned it in my comments as a way to justify my opinion. I refuse to debte stuff from a religious perspective, I'd rather be more objective. BTW, I'm pro-choice, and I support gay marriage and rights, so I do understand the concept of freedom and individual choices. I just think it would have more social benefits if it were banned.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Fair enough. Would you please elaborate on those social benefits?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Uhm, I feel like I've elaborated it throughout my comments on the post fairly. Would you please check it out? I'm sorry, you'd have to excuse my laziness. Anyway, I changed my opinion about the banning of porn. I'll put it now as a comment on the post.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I think porn is pathetic. It's just sad that there are women who have so little self respect that they don't care that thousands of men are fapping to her. If that's not low, then I don't know what is. ...However, I don't think it should be illegal. As much as I hate it, I don't feel like I should take away someone's rights, even if I do find their choices pathetic.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

what about the thousands of men who have so little self respect that they don't care that thousands of women (and men) are fapping to them?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

And who are you to judge them? You don't know what they've been through.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

What causes you to believe these men and women have little self respect? As much as I don't like Dr. Phil, there was an interesting piece he did on a married couple who began producing their own porn after their child was born and how they might eventually tell the kid. They both were respectable people who enjoyed it. And to get into the 'women who do such things have no self respect' can go into the sex-positive feminism argument or the 'women shouldn't need to show skin to achieve equality' feminist argument.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yes, and no. I don't think it should be completely BANNED but kind of, regulated. Cause although people are always like "THAT'S MY PERSONAL FREEDOM", I think the government has a bigger duty that just collecting taxes and stuff, that they should also preserve the morality of the society. But the problem is always, "who gets to decide what's moral and what isn't?" I personally think porn is immoral, most of you might not agree but that's not the point, because we can't legislate morality anyways. But, if we LIMIT the amount of porn available, then if you REALLY want to watch porn, then you can do that. But if you just find yourself slipping into temptation because it's always in your face, then you can avoid it. And this way, the porn industry can be minimized and easily controlled. But that's just my opinion.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

But if most people disagree with your morality why should that be the law?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I'd like to point out here that Oceania's government from 1984 also regulated porn... drawing some parallels yet?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

This argument for the banning of porn is absolutely ridiculous. If it was a question of morality the word 'illegal' should not have been included. It would be impossible to enforce as movie pirating is illegal, but that is widespread on the internet.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I think it is a matter of personal responsibility. If one wants to watch porn, why should others deny him the right to do so since they would not be affected either way

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Although I strongly believe that we as a society are better off without porn, I have changed my mind about the banning of porn. I realise now it woul impede on personal liberties, more power of the government in our personal life. The main problem with porn is how accessible it is, especially to minors; those who definitely can't differentiate etween reality and porn while growing up on this idea of sex. Therefore, I reached the conclusion, that porn can be regulated and only sold in adult stores as DVDs with IDs. It can still be taxed by government.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Why don't we also ban romance novels. Those give people unrealistic expectations about relationships. Or shows that portray high schools. Those give people unrealistic expectations about high school. People need to grow up and learn the difference between real and pretend. People in pornography are ACTING. People are degraded in lots of regular movies, but no one cares because it is all ACTING.

by Anonymous 11 years ago
