+251 So under New York's new ban, having 64 ounce cups of soda will be illegal, but having 64 ounce cups of beer will not be. It's a good thing they've got their priorities straight, amirite?

They're fighting obesity, not alcohol abuse. Since soda consumption is probably more prominent than beer consumption, I'd say that this is a sensible priority. On the contrary, I don't agree with this ban in general, because I love soda.

Just because I can't buy a 32 oz soda for 1.99 doesn't mean I cant buy two 16 oz sodas for 0.99 each. What did that fix? Well, I saved one cent...

I also get what you're saying here but personally I find alcohol consumption as a higher priority due to its tendencies to be part of problems in the city. Yeah someone can be obese, but that's not going to have a negative effects on anyone else

Wouldn't it make sense to ban 64 ounce cups of beer if they are fighting obesity? Beer is really fattening...

So are they just trying to fight childhood obesity..?

*effect. Sorry

by Anonymous 11 years ago

i honestly don't think this is going to help the obesity issue at all...

And I agree with you 100 percent.

The Daily Show pointed out how little of an effect banning one sugary thing out of thousands will have. "As a New Yorker I can go ... order 14 pounds of pastrami garnished with seven pounds of beef tongue .... Then, I can go from there right over to Hooters for a quick basket of chicken wings battered, deep-fried, and tossed in hot sauce and melted butter, served with a bowl of cheese, top it all of with a bit of frozen hot chocolate from Serendipity's. All of this is legal in New York City! Until //God forbid// I wanna wash it down with a little something as pure and refreshing as Mountain Dew!"

I know you're undercover in the amirite community.

What

by Anonymous 11 years ago

You're clearly a member of the police force and investigating this website.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yeah, it's a stupid law, but if you're regularly going to consume that much soda you have a problem. And alcohol is taxed more heavily than soda so by not banning the large amounts of alcohol the state benefits.

A medium soda at McDonald's is illegal but I wouldnt say someone drinking that much is problem

by Anonymous 11 years ago

64 ounces of soda is a lot. Not to mention if they get said drink with a meal.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

The maximum is 16 oz not 64

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I was just going by what the post says.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I can't even imagine the size of this. Do you guys go into a shop and ask for a 64oz cup of soda or is it still a large? Like...why would you even need that much?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Point is you can't get more than 16 ounces, and common large sizes at some places go beyond 40-50 ounces.
