+88 Texas: If you hold a day of prayer because you think God will help you with your drought and the drought still continues, do the math. Amirite?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Did they actually do this!?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I'm sorry, I think posts like this are just in bad taste...

by Anonymous 11 years ago

(Rysia):why? Because you disagree with the point it is trying to make?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Personally, I am not offended by this post but I feel like some people may be. I understand that this site is for opinions and everyone should be free to think whatever they like but such angry posts tend to ruin the atmosphere of amirite.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

What did you expect me to say? "If people have prayed for things and God hasn't come to answer them, they should admit that he might not be real", seems too boring to me. It's not angry post at all, and if people find it as an attack on a religion, they should question themselves on the insecurities of their beliefs.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yea that's a horrible argument, Tea If I insult someone's physical strength when that means a lot to them for some reason, I wouldn't call them insecure about his strength, I was being rude.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Wow, I am not insulting anyone; I'm making a point in a non conventional way. Never have I called the use of prayer stupid etc, just that it seems like it doesn't work. Evidence?, shit like the drought. Whether you don't agree the point, or don't like the fact that it may be a valid point, it doesn't matter and I don't care. It still doesnt make it an insult Nothing irks me more than those who misuse the "stop attacking religion" argument. Your whole argument is based on the idea it was an insult, you have yet to establish that that was the case.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Are you trying to say that whenever I take something as an insult, it is because I have insecurities about whatever they're insulting and that I should be the one questioning my beliefs? Riddle me this. What if it's the insulter that's wrong?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

The bit about insecurities was about religion in particular. Too many times religion has been questioned and the only argument was "stop attacking my beliefs" So no, it's not "whenever I take something as an insult", as you would put it Did I say that anytime someone takes somethign as an insult, they are insecure? No. If you take something as an insult, it doesn't mean it is one. And it definitely doesn't mean the author of the words meant it as one. Writing this, I didn't mean this as an insult, as I have already stated. And if you You and I disagree on the meaning of this post of whether or not it was an insult, then we can't simply use the "who's wrong, who's right?", because it would all be based on opinion.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Unless you meant something else when you said "What if it's the insulter that's wrong" Otherwise, like I said, at this point its based on opinion. So no one can say objectively if the insulter is wrong; not when it has gotten this subjective. And we don't even know if the insulter is even an insulter.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Replace insult with attack in my comment, as that's the word you used. My mistake for saying insult in my comment. You made the claim "if people find it as an attack on a religion, they should question themselves on the insecurities of their beliefs." I'm saying that that's a terrible claim because you're assuming the reason one perceives it as an attack is because they have insecurities, when, there's a possibility the attacker was just being rude. Remember you made this claim in the context of "if people find this as an attack" meaning that right or wrong, attack or no attack, are based on their perception. In the context of this post, it's wrong because lack of answers to prayers aren't a basis for discontinuing belief in God.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I guess I should be more specific then, and I'm sorry. I'm just really irked at the moment about those who claim others of attacking when they're just obviously questioning beliefs, or even lack thereof. Its at that point, where I would sense some insecurity. I never meant to attack or insult anyone, just to point out what I saw as a flaw. Which is why I brought up the whole insecurity part to the above user. That being said I never said there wasn't possibility of the attacker being rude. But if in this case, the person was not rude, or attacking, then why wouldn't I see it as a case of insecurities? I get what you;re saying, but it's on the basis of the person being rude. I obviously wasn't rude, and when I was accused of attacking or insulting when I was simply pointing something out. ? It's based on perception, but some cases are obvious, and that's what 'Im trying to get at. I didn't say that lack of prayers should mean a discontinue beliefs in god. More of, you should start having doubt. Like I said earlier "They should admit that he /might/ not be real". Or that prayer might not actual work. >That has nothing to do with with god's existence

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Although why would it be wrong to have lack of prayers as a reason? It makes sense ot me, especially when I hear of god answering prayers being a main reason for the continued loyalty of so many of his followers. When it could have just been flukes or coincidences. Especially when prayers like this don't get answered.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

We're cool on the first part. If I remember, I'll explain my stance on prayers tomorrow.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yeah, God **obviously** likes droughts. Duh.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

And fire, don't forget the fire.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I'm not noticing how math would solve this... logic maybe, but not math. They're not synonymous.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It's a common expression that has nothing to do with math. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/do+the+math

MORE PRAYER! troll

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Clearly, God hates Texas.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

He's not alone.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Because when you ask your parents for something and they don't give it to you that means they don't exist

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Asking for an iPod or the newest video game is a bit different than asking to stop a drought that is destroying cattle and stuff and thus people's economies and lives. Just a bit different.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

If you ask your parents to give you food and they don't, allowing you to struggle for no real reason, either they didn't hear you, or they're really shitty parents.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Maybe God's just really shitty. Just a thought.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Or maybe He has a reason for not giving them that. No true Christian will ever claim to fully understand Gods will but we have faith that it's important. Maybe he can't wait to see his kids again so he's bringing them home, maybe not. Either way, if you believe that there's any possibility that there's a higher power you can't realistically believe that it's there to serve us and our wants or needs

by Anonymous 11 years ago

So if someone wins the lottery, or is miraculously saved in an accident, they can use their experience to say God was there to protect them in times of need/struggle, and that his proof of his love/existence. But if they don't get the lottery, or the save from harm, the same people can say that he still exists, he just isn't there to serve our needs? That's some pretty good trolling.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I don't really understand the point you're trying to make... You're saying that if he performs miracles then people can view that as proof but if there is no miracle present and people still have faith that they're ignorant? Planes make sonic booms Yes if you hear a sonic boom you know there is a plane nearby. Just because you don't hear one doesn't mean that there's any reason to believe that there's not. God performs miracles and provides help of his own will and power. One thing that Christianity critics need to understand is that life is a test. It's all about how strong we stay during hard times and if we continue to have faith throughout struggles. Knowing this it makes sense that God doesn't swoop down and make everything better if there's a problem. Your teacher doesn't answer the questions that you can't answer on a quiz does he?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

This makes it seem as if the only reason God exists is to fulfill people's wishes.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I think that, to a lot of people, prayer is mostly used as a way to feel better, find inner-strength and renew hope. It's stupid when people think of God as a magical genie.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

THEY ACTUALLY DID THIS?? I AM LAUGHING SO HARD FUCKFUCKFUCKFUCKFUCK.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

You're misunderstanding the point of prayer. Maybe they were praying God would give them the strength or means to continue on despite the drought

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Nope.. in this case Governor Rick Perry held a day of prayer specifically to stop the drought by asking for rain.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Source where he said that's exactly why? Anyways prayers don't always get answered exactly how we want, doesn't mean God isn't real/listening

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I might not mean god isn't real or is listening, but it definitely adds credibility to the radical idea that he might not exist. It says so here: http://governor.state.tx.us/new...amation/16038/ and here: http://www.foxnews.com/politics...treme-drought/ and here: http://www.texastribune.org/tex...ayer-for-rain/ and in case you're still not believing: http://www.newser.com/story/116...-rain-day.html and just for shits and giggles: http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/gov-rick-perry-asks-texans-pray-rain/story?id=13439686

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Sometimes God's answer is just No.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Oh really? Well, The thought he doesn't exist makes more than to me than the thought he answers prayers for lottery wins but not to stop a drought that destroys thousands of lives.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

One does not just simply understand God.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

The same way one does not simply understand the big bang theory and how nothing, including time, did not exist before hand until p branes or such collided.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Why did you up that comment?... You do know that what I just said was a theory that does not include the idea o God?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

What does it matter that I up'ed your comment? I fully understood your comment.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

You understood my previous comments but you didn't upped them. It matters because it intrigues me; people up comments because they agree with what the person is saying. i doubt you were agreeeing with what I was saying.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Perhaps I did agree. That is why people up comments right? I don't understand why you care.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I just told you why I cared. I just wanted ot know, never thought youd be agreeing with me. I don't know why you have such a douchey altitude at the moment.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It's hard to convey tone through text. I'm not having a douchey attitude with you. It actually intrigues me that you are intrigued. I up'ed it because I found your comment interesting, even amusing. It was certainly a different perspective that made me stop and think. I still have my beliefs but that doesn't mean I disrespect yours.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I understand.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I apologize for appearing douchey to you. As stated earlier it was not meant to be conveyed that way.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Nono, It was my fault, I read it the wrong way.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

The big bang theory doesn't include god? It was thought of by a catholic priest and was rejected by the scientific community for bein too religious. It doesn't prove gods existence but it doesn't disprove it

by Anonymous 11 years ago

There's a reason why I also included the bit where time and NOTHING existed before the big bang except for a bunch of p branes. It's a theory believed by almost all Atheists and rejected by most theists.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

What theory the big bang theory

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Uhh, I just wrote what I said.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

The three day prayer wasn't really to end the drought, but to boost morale and hope among Texas citizens. In the end, major rainfall did come some four months later. I do find it humorous that the rain came on October 9, 2011, the final day of the Atheist Alliance International's Texas Freethought Convention. It seems someone up there has a sense of humor.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Agreed. And maybe God thought it would be better for them to grow as people and deal with the drought on their own. Maybe he didn't want them to be dependent of him and he wanted them to try to solve their own problems. Maybe that WAS his answer to their prayers.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Actaully, Rick Perry made it clear he was asking his citizens to pray for rain. Whether he also wanted a morale booster, i don't know. And he asked for rain around April 21. It took till October? Right, because if God hadn't answered the prayers, nature would have forever not let any rain come down on the area and earth's atmosphere totally wouldn't have dropped rain on its own. Like it does any other time it rains at any point of the world. He must have a terrible sense of humour because that wasn't even remotely funny.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Many articles state that he drew the idea of the prayer day from it appearing to help the citizen's spirits in the past. I don't know why it took so long, but I choose to believe God works in strange ways. Humor can be relative to the person.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Of course humour is relative to a person and is different for everyone. Which is why anyone who finds rain appearing 5-6 months later funny must have a terrible sense of humour.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

And that message was, "You guys, if you want me to end a drought, it's rain dance or nihil."

by Anonymous 11 years ago

(Sorry for commenting twice but this is a joke goldmine to me.) (Not that my jokes are golden. What I meant to say is that it's easy to make jokes about this.) (I'll just shut up now.)

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Just the fact that your username is TeaBagger makes me disagree with you.
