+294 It makes no sense to call the group Alcoholics ANONYMOUS when you have to stand up and say "My name is..." at the beginning of the meetings, amirite?

Yes it does.. They are all alcoholics and but you don't talk about what you do there outside of it therefore its anonymous

well if it was alcholics obvious then it would be a pub......

You don't have to say your name, and a lot of people use fake names

I have never heard anyone in any AA, NA, OA or other A meeting use their last name. There are no records kept on who attended and people are asked not to talk about who they saw there. How is this not anonymous? If humans are involved it's going to be imperfect. So, are you being deliberately dense?

Sigh, yes, guys, I realize you don't use your last name, it just seems ironic that the phrase is associated with the organization. Irony, people, look it up. I didn't post this to start World War III over something so petty, so if you're looking for a huge argument, you're not going to get it here.
