Non-religious people- You still use phrases including the word 'god,' such as "oh my god", amirite?
by Anonymous11 years ago
It actually annoys me I do that. By the way, you should be addressing atheists. You can believe in a god and not be religious.

Eh, I figured non-religious was ambiguous enough. I know some people who claim not to be atheists but have non-religious philosophies. (it's a bit weird, I can't necessarily explain it)
by Anonymous11 years ago
It makes sense for as a non-religious person to use those phrases, rather than a religious person, because the religious person would probably find them offensive.
by Anonymous11 years ago
Exactly! Saying "oh my God" is actually using the Lord's name in vain, which we're told not to do in the ten commandments.
by Anonymous11 years ago
"God" isn't his name, it's just a common reference.

Oh my science!

Oh my evolution!
...Oh my God it is.
by Anonymous11 years ago
I say "Oh my God" when something is unbelievable, such as the concept of a deity.
by Anonymous11 years ago
I say "Oh my frogs" instead.
Okay, I don't, but I'm going to from now on. See if I can't get a little trend going.
by Anonymous11 years ago
But if someone says "Oh my frogs!" I envision a scene like this: http://ctrlv.in/100486
which makes me cry (cry2)
by Anonymous11 years ago
Those frogs actually died for our sins.

I see a lot of atheists online like "I can't shake the habit" and for a while I didn't get it. Then I learned that some people who have to live around less tolerant people get asked why they still say it if they don't belive in God. So I guess it make sense.

Every time an athiest says that I say "Oh silly, you don't have a god!" then they give me this look...
by Anonymous11 years ago
That's probably because you were being a dick.
by Anonymous11 years ago
Funny story, I make one of my best friends, who is atheistic, always say "when you die nothing happens" instead of "bless you" and "oh my nothing" instead of "oh my god"
by Anonymous11 years ago
I've never understood when atheists say "bless you". Who do they think is gonna be doing the blessing if the don't believe in God?
by Anonymous11 years ago
Mostly they say it out of politeness because they're not dicks.
by Anonymous11 years ago
I've always just thought it was interesting. It's still nice of them, but have they ever thought about what they're saying?
by Anonymous11 years ago
My brother scolds me for saying God in any way at all that isn't good. When other religious people say it I cringe. Atheists can really just go fuck themselves, though.
