+176 Posters for Magic Mike had written on them: 'Warning, this film will make your boyfriend seem inadequate' If this had been written on a movie poster about a woman there would be an outcry. amirite?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Even if there was a movie about female strippers there would be an outcry. I can see it now..."It's basically porn!", "Stop objectifying women!", "Men are such pigs!"

by Anonymous 11 years ago

There has already been movies about female strippers.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Absolutely. Fucking double standards. Objectification of men is completely acceptable and different from objectification of women. I don't think objectification is an issue at all, it just really bugs me how it's treated differently.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Are you joking right now? Women are objectified CONSTANTLY in the media. How often do you seen an actress who isn't sexualized in a movie? Rarely. Even female journalists have a certain 'beauty quota' to fill. Meanwhile men can completely be successful regardless of how they look. One movie says something mildly sexist about men and you're complaining? How about the countless rap songs out there degrading women? What about the cliche movie plot where the protagonist 'likeable guy' wins the girl in the end like she's a trophy? What about the fact that women //don't even have equal pay// in many countries, have to fight for reproductive rights, and live in a //rape culture//. If you cared about harmful double standards you would be speaking out about the racism and misogyny that runs rampant in the media rather than male sexism when //we live in a patriarchy//

by Anonymous 11 years ago

The post is pointing out the double standard, it's not saying that it's a problem that men were objectified. Being objectified isn't a problem, it's actually an individual hang-up. It bothers some people, and others revel in it. And fuck you, we don't live in a rape culture.

"We don't live in a rape culture" Can't tell if trolling or.. Please, I recommend you read this article before you say anything else concerning this topic (the comments are informative too).. http://www.xojane.com/issues/it-happened-to-me-if-i-could-go-back-in-time-i-wouldnt-report-my-rape

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Wowee, you recommend me to read an article in which the point is purely the author's opinion? I can trade links, too. http://ramblingdiscourses.wordpress.com/2012/04/10/the-feminist-rape-culture-is-a-myth/

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Interesting article, and it certainly made me think about my viewpoint, but I can't find any citations for the statistics the author used- like the "In the U.S. less that 1% of the male population will ever commit any kind of sexual offense be it sexual harassment, battery, assault or rape." I'm fairly positive that's untrue because in my sociology course we had an entire section on this and for the U.S it was something like 15%.. I'll keep researching though, because I can't find anything. However- I do think 'rape culture' is something that can be applied to our society when for the last 10+ years 97 out of every 100 rapists have gone free in the US. I'm not saying we are anywhere near as bad as some countries, but them being worse doesn't make us better. Source- http://www.rainn.org/news-room/97-of-every-100-rapists-receive-no-punishment

He's talking about this movie in particular not all of the media. If the roles were reversed and the movie were about female strippers, it wouldn't even get made.

Men are not the victims of sexism. It is impossible for a man to be the victim of sexism. Just like it’s impossible for a white person to be the victim of racism. Reverse sexism and reverse racism are words invented by white men to label anyone who questions their power and unconscious desire to crap all over minorities and women. Next we’re going to have “When is it International Men’s Day?” - the answer: every day. “When is it white history month?” - every month. Grow up. Your loss of entitlement doesn’t mean you’re the victim of sexism.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Are you trolling, or just really stupid?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

No trolls here my friend.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Are. . . Are you //sure//?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

If I wanted to be a troll, I would have posted anonymously. I stand by what I said 100%. If you believe I'm stupid for what I said, you need to open your eyes a little bit wider.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Well, that's pretty sad, then. Men can't be the victim of sexism? Your comment is sexist against men in that it excludes the possibility of men being victims of sexism. Same goes for white people and racism. You just completely proved your own (insanely stupid) point incorrect. I'll ask one more time; Are you sure you want to stand behind a comment that disproves itself?

Sexism does not hurt men. Sexism hurts women, full stop. There is no special kind of shit that magically rolls uphill, even if the patriarchy hurts men too. Sure, maybe there are individual men who receive negative treatment or are victims of individual, prejudiced women, but that’s not sexism. There’s no social sanction for it, and the very next woman that man encounters is not very likely to repeat the behavior (unless he’s stumbled into a coven of manhaters who have taken over the whole town). Suffering a personal insult from one person is not suffering from sexism. Earning less money than a female coworker at the same position is not sexism against men. A selection committee making extra effort to schedule women speakers at a conference is not being sexist against men. Until men are being harmed as a group and can prove it, with laws of averages and stuff backed up by surveys and data from longitudinal studies and evidence like that, and can frame it as a coherent narrative with lots and lots of quotes from women that reveal how they consider men an underclass and why there are perfectly rational (perhaps biological) reasons to perpetuate the difference in political po...

political power between the two groups, stop claiming that sexism hurts men. Bad things happen to men, sure, but when a woman treats a man badly for no other reason than that he is a man, she is prejudiced. Someone being mean to a man does not signal systemic oppression. Don’t collect personal anecdotes of all the times women have been mean to you to argue about the validity of women’s experiences of sexism, particularly when they are explaining their experiences of sexism within the skeptical community as a deterrent to membership after you’ve asked them what’s holding them back from active participation. Don’t try to shut them up by calling them hypocrites because regular sexism is just as bad as reverse sexism, and thus all people within skepticism are on an equal footing and women demanding special treatment are being unreasonable. There is no reverse sexism. And if individual people have been mean to you, deal with it when they are being mean to you and move on. Either brush it off and forget about it because you don’t really care what strangers say to you, or call them out for it because you are fed up or relish confrontation, but don’t nurse the grievance as...

grievance as ammunition you can use to shoot down arguments of the people trying to dismantle the status quo.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I think I need a nap after reading that mass of ridiculous bullshit. HopeImrite is correct, you have no idea what the words you use mean. I could tear your argument down sooo fucking hard, but I've had enough of this discussion. I will let someone else do it. Just wanted to remind you again that this is one of the most idiotic, and ironically sexist, things I've ever read. Good day.

Sleep well!

by Anonymous 11 years ago

No matter how much i open my eyes, I still can't make my vision a stupid as yours. You obviously don't even know the definitions of the words you're using if you truly believe anything you have said.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Sexism is prejudice or discrimination based on gender. Note how it never says based on FEMALE gender. It is entirely possible to be a male victim of both sexism and racism and it's simply ignorant to say otherwise.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Just because Side A usually acts more sexist/racist towards Side B doesn't mean Side B can never act sexist/racist towards Side A.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

"Men do not deserve rights." Try to convince me that statement isn't sexist.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I actually thought that movie was incredibly exploitive to the actors... I kind of felt bad when I saw the promo

This makes me think of that news story where a man was taken captive and force fed Viagra over three days so he could be raped by the woman who tied him to a radiator. The articles had names like "Man made into sex slave!" and such. If it was a female it would have said something along the lines of "Woman repeatedly molested and raped while being held captive."
