+83 It's a bit strange that so many bullied kids have the courage to kill themselves, yet aren't brave enough to stand up for themselves. amirite?

it doesn't take courage to kill yourself, it is an act of cowardice. if you kill yourself because your being bullied then it is because you see it as an easier way than dealing with the problems. your looking at it from your own perspective because you feel that you could never do that yourself, but from their perspective they do it because it is easier than standing up for themselves and possibly getting hurt even more in the process of doing so.

I disagree. To take your own life doesn't mean you're a coward - it means you have serious psychological problems. What they need is not to be called a coward, what they need is help. Suicide due to bullying goes way deeper than, "they just don't want to deal with it".

to take your own life does not necessarily make you a coward, but in most circumstances it is an act of cowardice. I'm not saying you should tell someone who is contemplating suicide that they are a coward and need to deal with it, that would just be awful. they should be helped and offered the support they need, I never said they shouldn't. I just said that the act of taking ones life as a way of escaping from your problems is an act of cowardice.

In some cases, definitely, it is an act of cowardice. Say, if a man is having an affair and his wife finds out and he takes his own life - that would be cowardice for me. But say if someone had a literal mental imbalance, or faced abuse, then that is not cowardice.

Suicide is definitely cowardly, not courageous

Maybe will power is a better word.. To be able to hang or shoot yourself probably takes more will power then telling some bully off.. And apparently people are praised far more when they kill themself then when they stand up for themself.
