I never use haha. But that's because my mom and I don't typically hold conversations. It's more of a quick "Do you know where my keys are?" kind of thing.

My last text to someone other than my mom was August 5th. They wanted to know when the Curiosity landing was. Before that was July 29th from a girl who informed me that after watching The Big Bang Theory all day that I am exactly like Sheldon.

I don't really text, and when I do it's usually serious stuff and not just a random conversation. I've experienced this with IMing, though.
