It's really not that sad. What is 'popular' doesn't dictate what you have to like or listen to, aside if you're just stuck with the radio. Besides, they're probably popular because they are mindless. They're just a nice beat and/or easy lyrics, which is most likely what this face-paced, ridiculously complicated world needs sometimes.

This. When it comes down to it, we all need escapism now and again, and that's okay. Also, some people don't use music to find meaning; they just prefer to get their meaning from things like books r movies and keep the music as something fun.
