How many doctors did it take?

It was a children's game you would jump rope to. Once it got to that part, the person would continue to jump rope until they messed up.

Ahh okay, I wasn't sure if it was a jump rope song or just a little...rhyming thing.

I kind of want to know the origin of this game, as well as many others. The story behind the "london bridges" game was quite intersting.

"Ring around the Rosie" refers to the black plague. "We all fall down" refers to all the deaths that it caused.

Yea, I already knew that one. And "pocket full of posies" was when people kept flower petals in their pockets to counteract the smell of dead people. I just find it so interesting how some children's games are a part of my childhood through word-of-mouth, when really they have been going on for generations throughout multiple continents.

While your giving explanations, what was the meaning behind London Bridges? (hmm)

Oh, well I could be wrong since it was given to me by word-of-mouth a long time ago. I was told that the London Bridge did fall and had to be rebuilt long before America, and the song traveled across the atlantic by immigrants. Apparently, there is a whole Wiki article about it.

There's a wikipedia article on origins in general: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nu...ursery_rhymes. It says that the Ring a Ring o' Roses one probably isn't to do with the plague.

but HOW would she accidentally kiss someone else, regardless of whether they were sketchy?
Unless they put her under some kind of spell or were in disguise, it's hard to believe in a "accidental" kiss.

Me and my friends always used to say "Cinderella dressed in yella, went UPstairs to kiss A fella, by mistake she kissed a snake, how many doctors did it take?" Damn, were we doing it wrong that WHOLE time?

I'd bet that it was worded differently among different people just like with everything else. Doesn't mean it's "wrong." =)
