+423 It's pretty sad and kind of scary that "90s Kids" reminisce about the TV shows they watched during their childhood, rather than the things they did during their childhood, amirite?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

No it's not. Watching those shows was an important part of their childhood. It was something they shared with most other kids of their time. That doesn't make it sad at all.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yes but the most important part of a childhood should be things you //did//, not things you //watched//.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I like reminiscing about old tv shows but I still remember pretty muchmuch everything I did.. I had a pretty eventful childhood haha

by Anonymous 11 years ago

*much "muchmuch"? Smh haha

by Anonymous 11 years ago

lol well they kind of coincided because the shows that i watched (Digimon, Pokemon, Yu-gi-Oh) had games that most of my other friends played too.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Watching TV is technically //doing// something. Therefore, it is something they //did//. But I agreed because sometimes that is all they talk about. I was a 90's kid and spent most of my days on my bike. I didn't even get to watch most of the shows people talk about because we didn't have satellite.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yeah I don't think it's fair to say it like this, OP. Children are a product of their era, and TV and remains an important part of our time. TV shows help teach kids things, and can help them develop their personalities. If they had the same TV back in the 40s, they'd probably be saying the same thing! You can't judge it as inferior or "scary". It's just the way it is. The next generation will probably yarn on about the iPad apps they downloaded

by Anonymous 11 years ago

90s kids, you remember doing homework, amirite? troll

by Anonymous 11 years ago

OOH BURN

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Good Guy Favvkes got yo back http://ctrlv.in/112885

by Anonymous 11 years ago

All I got out of that was you want to rub lotion on her back

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It rubs the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Why does it matter what their childhood was like if it turned them into the person they are today? Tv shows and all, if hours of tv and the internet molded me into the person who stands before you, then will I keep all my "wasted" hours, thank you.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Who are you quoting when you say wasted?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Me. Fuck your shit.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

You put the word "wasted" in quotes, but I honestly think that if your fondest memories are of things that didn't really happen, those hours //are// wasted. Sure, I watch TV. I have plenty of favorite shows, but I don't let them define my life. I hate that our generation is the one that lets media be the most important part of growing up. And honestly, I would not feel comfortable living in a world run by adults who say that TV shows made them who they are.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Obviously that is not the only thing that had an effect on me, of course I have plenty of childhood memories. But people often go on about what a strong influence books had on them as a child, why is tv any different?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Books are entirely different from TV. Reading expands the mind and makes you a more thoughtful, intelligent person. Watching TV does the opposite.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Words cannot describe how much it annoys me when someone says "If you didn't watch [insert TV show] then you had no childhood." Like...sorry I played outside?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I told my friend that I've never owned a playstation and she said that I had no childhood.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I've had a friend specifically say to me that if I've never owned a Gamecube, Playstation or Xbox, I had no childhood. I've owned a NES and a Wii in the past, but those two systems don't count, apparently.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yeah I told her I owned a Gamecube and she said it didn't count. Excuse me, I was a little busy actually having friends as a kid.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

yeah I didn't have a Gamecube and people say that to me. Pssh I played other games. With my cat... wary

by Anonymous 11 years ago

What's the connection between owning a games console and having no friends? that's rather judgmental wouldn't you say? In my experience, having friends over to play on it was the best part of having one.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

If your entire childhood was based around owning a playstation, to the point where you can't even fathom someone not owning one, you probably didn't have a ton of friends.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

that wasn't what I asked you. You made the direct connection between having a playstation and having friends. You can't take that one person's extreme nonsense example and make a statement like that.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Shut up.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

also saying that because someone is surprised or shocked you didn't own one, and then concluding that the playstation was their entire childhood is also a massive leap in logic. In my mind, the shock would be born out of the fact that perhaps in that person's experience, everyone he knew had one, so of course it would be surprising when someone didn't

by Anonymous 11 years ago

@anon - what a well thought-out and reasoned response from a clearly intelligent and articulate human being. I congratulate you. I also pity you since you clearly don't have the balls to reveal who you really are.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

It wasn't an assumption. She wasn't just surprised, she flat out told me that because I didn't own a PlayStation I didn't have a childhood. It wasn't that far of a leap.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

but that's what i mean, taking that one person's perspective and then turning back on everyone like that is highly unreasonable and illogical. In doing so you brand all people with playstations in the same way. This woman you speak of sounds nuts, but only as nuts as the idea that having a playstation and playing it a lot means you have no friends, which is what you seem to be saying

by Anonymous 11 years ago

My comment meant to imply that she didn't have friends, not that people who owned PlayStation didn't have friends. It wouldn't even make sense for me to say that because I owned a GameCube. Sorry if it came off that way.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I realize that, but you must see how intent is irrelevant. The post is interpreted as it is interpreted and one needs to take responsibility for it. Whatever, I know what you REALLY mean. And you're right that people like that are CRAZY. I'd say it's more of a lack of imagination rather than lack of social skills though.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Not really. Cartoons were watched by most children. It was easy to talk to children about them. It would be awkward for those nostalgic people online to go "Like for that time in 1992 where me and pete found that abandoned house filled with dust"

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I found an abandoned house filled with dust and used to play in it. :D. Probably wasn't the safest place for a 9 year old but it was better than local TV.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

@Rainboots, I'm pretty sure that if you reminisce about how much fun riding a tricycle was, nearly everyone would know what you meant.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Watching tv is doing something.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I don't understand how that topic turns into such huge arguments on various internet sites.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

At least 90s kids know when not to use a comma... d

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I remember the shows, but I also remember what I did. Think someone already mentioned this but some of the shows/movies I watched related to what I played as a child. Pokemon is a huge example

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I never even watched tv when I was a kid, so all of my memories are things I did

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Ahh same

by Anonymous 11 years ago

That doesn't give anyone else the right to judge those who did like to watch TV as a kid. It rains a lot where I live, so having the TV there was something to do when I couldn't go outside.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yeah, because any of what I said was "judging" those who watched tv...

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Did I say that YOU were judging people?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

You replied to my comment, so yeah, you did

by Anonymous 11 years ago

yes i replied to it, because I see people taking a statement like yours and turning it against others. If I'd meant it entirely against you I would have said that doesn't give YOU the right to judge. I never expected to have to explain myself quite so much for what i see as a fairly innocuous observation, which wasn't actually directed at you, hence the lack of "you" anywhere in it. I put it under your post because it was related.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I don't think you really understand the concept of replying to a comment

by Anonymous 11 years ago

What I have to say is directly related to the very thing you said. If you would like me any more explicitly state that I wasn't getting at you in particular, then that's fine by me. I work in advertising, I'm used to adding disclaimers to things. Here's an alteration to it, just incase there are more people like you who don't get it: "That may be, but such an stateent as this is also frequently employed by others as a reason to judge those who DID choose to watch TV as a kid. That's a shame."

by Anonymous 11 years ago

When I was a child the games I played with my siblings revolved around the shows I watched. My cousin and I pretended to be Power Rangers and me and my siblings would open up a Pokemon nursery in the back yard.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

no, 90s kids all have something in common no other generation did: 90's children's shows. same with 70's kids, 80's kids, etc. Doing things like playing outside is something all generations did. "lms if you used to play hide and seek all the time lol true 90's kid ;D ;D" just doesn't have the same annoying ring to it.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I like to look back and remember everything about my childhood, and that includes the TV shows I watched, and those were pretty well universal for children growing up in 90s, whereas my other experiences were not. If I shared everything I did as a child with people on the internet, a lot of it wouldn't even make sense because it was unique to me and my friends or family. I know my brother, my nephew, and I used to do all kinds of stupid things as kids that didn't involve TV, but it just wouldn't be interesting to all of you. I do reflect on it with them all the time, though.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

** 6/10. It's kind of relatable, and is an opinion.**

by Anonymous 11 years ago

who the fuck asked you

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Whoever put it on this website, that asks for opinions.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I think we're all in the presence of an uprising of AppAwesome.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I wish you were creative with your ratings, why dont you discuss why it's relatable/unrelatable, and talk about which aspects you agreed/disagreed with, and you can mention grammar and/or sentence structure. If you are going to give a rating make it clear why the person deserved his/her rating.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

9/10 on the rating because someone said uprising

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Lots of 90's watched similar TV shows, right? Lots of 90's kids were also very active, I think it's safe to say. But when you're having a conversation with another kid, you can only say so much about what you did outside that day without it getting redundant, whereas TV shows are constantly changing.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

OMG who remembers Catdog?! Cat was the best part jolly I always wondered how you'd have sex with him though...

by Anonymous 11 years ago

As a 90'schildTM, I definitely understand why people refer to TV shows & such to define the childhood. I wouldn't go as far as to say "you didn't have a childhood if you didn't watch ______," but thinking back to my childhood, I remember waking up early to play Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, watch cartoons, etc. I also think about playing outside and having a life, but these shows & video games entertained me soooso much and therefore made me a happy child, so I do refer to them. Ya know?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I watched great shows. I also played great video games, and played Capture the Flag with my neighbours in the backyard. How many people from the 00s can say that? Then again, how many people from the 90s can say that?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I see plenty of stuff that isn't just TV shows for 90s kids Pogs........ Blue Pepsi Or am I the odd man out here?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

People should be able to reminisce about whatever the fuck they want.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

90s kids are pretty fucking terrible. At least, the ones that constantly boast and bicker about how their old TV shows were "TOTLLY CEWL" and way better than the so-called "shit" today. The only shit is the shit spewing out of their mouths.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

YYA'd just because all the people so furiously masturbating to the fact that they're '90s Kids' irritate me.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I jumped rope at recess. That's what I remember as a 90's kid... And Johnny Bravo...

by Anonymous 11 years ago

We had awesome TV shows, what can I say?

by Anonymous 11 years ago
