+195 It's annoying when angry people at the movies demand to get their money if they didn't like the movie they just saw. Do they not realize that you're paying the theater for **admission**? amirite?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

No... pretty sure I'm paying them to read my mind and tell me what my opinion of a movie will be and to prevent me from wasting my money on something I wouldn't like. And if they don't do that, I deserve a refund dammit.

I really hope the people don't actually get the refund.

Then in that case, i am free to see anything i want since i paid "admission." You are paying, and if you don't like the movie, have to leave do to illness, or an emergency, you should be entitled to a refund. Especially if you didn't see the whole movie.

A. You are paying admission to a particular showing of a particular movie. You are buying a seat (or seats) for one time slot in one theater. That's all you get for your money, not a pass to go see whatever movie you like once you get beyond the ticket checker. B. If you have to leave before the movie's over due to emergency or illness, you can probably make a case for getting your money back (but don't quote me on that, I've never worked in a theater). But if you just don't like the movie, that's your own fault for not knowing enough about what you're going to see. Check reviews - they come out before the movie does.

A. That was sarcasm, because of poor choice of words. But by your definition, if you are paying for a time slot, and you DON'T sit through the entire movie, why shouldn't you be entitled to a refund? You purchased a "product" and you can read all the reviews you want, until you have it "in your hands" per say, you never will know. Read all the reviews you want, anything short of reading a full description isn't gonna reveal everything. For theaters, first 30-45 mins are on the house. If you don't like it, you get a refund. That's a fact. But yes I agree, if you sit through the Whole movie and you don't like it, then sure. No refund or soup for you. If something offends you, like a making light of rape or something, and you get offended, you damn sure should get a refund. My two cents really. As for the lady, I'm not sure what her situation was. But I'm not calling anyone an idiot because I "assume"

If you have to leave the theater because of illness or emergency, are you really going to be worried about a refund? "My wife is going into labor! But the movie just started, so I was wondering if we could possibly maybe get our refund now?" no just no.

@Anonymous: Sure, first 30-45 minutes on the house seems fair. But I don't think you can blame the theater if you're offended by a movie. They didn't produce it, they just showed it. If something utterly disturbing happens at minute 55, say, and you immediately walk out and demand your money back, you might have a case even if the 45 minute grace period is up, but if it happens near the end of the movie, you've stayed that long and apparently enjoyed the movie to that point, so no refund. That's just my opinion. @Skylar: Hey, movies are expensive, man. And maybe you wouldn't ask for a refund as you're running out the door, but if you call back later and explain what happened, you might get lucky and get either your money back, or a free ticket.

I'm almost tempted to call a theater with this story just to see what they would tell me.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I'd be in support of that - research, you know - but I'd go with something a little less memorable than a woman going into labor. The staff might wonder how/why no one saw that.

has no one else noticed how admission? is highlighted in the same way amirite? is...

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Because OP bolded it.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Oh yeah... I forgot we could do that
