-90 It's hypocritical when Democrats accuse Republicans of racism and division, considering that Democrats are the party that gave us the KKK, Jim Crow laws, poll taxes, segregation, the Confederacy, and a pro-slavery platform, amirite?

The early democrats and early republicans were essentially flipped back in their early days; the early democrats were basically todays republicans and vice versa. The ideals of the two parties were, for the most part, that is. It is totally unjustified to say something like this about EITHER party simply because of who generally consisted of the parties way before their time. It's like calling a man a hypocrite for thinking his wife should be allowed to do more than just stay at home and clean, just because there were men in the PAST who thought totally different.

I was going to down vote these... then I read it again and realized the valid point you were making regardless of my opinion about the OP

This is true (it amazed me that FDR ran on a smaller government platform), but republicans have mainly stayed the same. They still consistently vote for civil rights even today. The main difference was the early republican party was more mercantilist than it is today. Many believe the republicans are like early democrats because the media and key public figure portray them to be For the record, even though the civil rights act of 1964 was supported by both parties, the republicans supported it in greater proportions and without the republicans it wouldn't have passed.

That is a complete and absolute lie! The Republican Party started as the party of anti slavery. Your post is a total historical lie. Try telling the truth for once. It’s a lot easier to be consistent. You have no honor, dude. [IMAGE:106462]

You're kind of a moron if you don't understand that today's Republicans are the people who left the Democratic Party after the Democrats moved towards liberal social policies such as anti-segregation, etc. Early Democrats were basically pro-labor but not socially progressive.

Republicans left the democrats and several other early parties to create a new one against slavery, not against progressive policies. Unless states rights is a progressive policy...
