Well, technically, composers of the Baroque period like Bach didn't really write symphonies as we know them in the modern sense. His "simphonies" were more of a precursor to what was perfected by Beethoven and Haydn in the Romantic period. These were instrumentals but not the same 3-4- movement-with-the-first-developing-a-theme-using-sonata-form symphonies that were written later. http://ctrlv.in/115738
