+133 It's really annoying when people make fun of you just because your family has more money than them. You don't have any more control of how much money your parents make then they do, amirite?

prolly worse if they make fun of you for having no lunch, holes in your clothes, no coat in winter, living in a car or homeless shelter etc...

Someone finally understands. I hate it when people are act like I'm a spoiled brat based off the reasoning that I'm rich. It's stupid and seriously annoying.

And success is no reason for jeering

HAHA you are successful and can afford nice things!

If it's kids we're talking about, or even young adults to some extent, then one person being wealthier in a group just makes that their "thing" to jibe about - as South Park teaches us. Among groups of friends, one shouldn't get too het up about those little things we get teased for. On the other hand, if it's a more genuine case of bullying or active ridicule or whatever, then that's more serious.

I don't get it. How would someone make fun of you for being rich? "Oh look at Anon with his stupid emergency fund and Centurion American Express card! What a loser!"

by Anonymous 11 years ago

They could call you spoiled or stuck up because you have money.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

This is probably the most unaware first world problem in existence. Seriously?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

If it's bullying we're talking about, it's not something to be considered a "first world problem" - when you have kids killing themselves over it, it's a serious fucking problem, wherever you are.

I totally make fun of my rich friends. Really, you should be willing to accept a few jibes in exchange for getting whatever clothes/toys/gadgets/etc. you want. I guess you can be annoyed, but people get made fun of for stuff outside of their control all the time, and getting to live in luxury is pretty much the best possible example of that.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

The thing is, just because your family has money doesn't mean you get whatever you want.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Obviously there are limitations, and I guess we could have different definitions of being rich, but the point is rich people are generally less accustomed to not getting there way, so it makes sense for them to be less tough. Because of that, they'll always be receiving taunts, and I don't think that's totally unfair. Really, making fun of the fortunate is just so much better for everyone than making fun of the unfortunate, yet for obvious reasons, the latter is more common.

I agree with what you're saying in general, but the truth is that just because someone has it easier financially doesn't mean there aren't other things in there life that are hard. A lot of my friends with richer families have parents that are cruel when it comes to grades, sports, and other things.

I get what you mean - if you have good friends who are rich, then making a joke about it now and then is just something about them to jibe at. You don't mean it maliciously. They might make fun of you for being a hippy, or for being a vegetarian or whatever. I make fun of a whole bunch of trivial things about my friends, and they do the same to me, among which we poke fun at: 1) Gingers 2) Middle-class white people 3) "White" black people 4) Gays 5) Bromancers 6) IT geeks 7) Teachers 8) Catholics The list goes on...it's part of our everyday social discourse. And it's all for larks.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

You are pathetic. You are really gonna whine about being made fun of for being rich? If that is your worst problem...stfu.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Good God, get over it. Talk about first world problems. People can barely afford to live and you're whining because someone made fun of you because you're lucky enough to live comfortably.
