-81 Woman have to give birth to a baby and in all likelihood, take care of the baby most of the time therefore, men should not be allowed an opinion when it comes to abortion, amirite?

I feel this way, but if he wants one and she doesn't, he shouldn't be at fault for not wanting to help raise that child, since he didn't want to have it.

He's equally responsible seeing, as it was his sperm that made the child.

So? The point here is that the woman does all the work in birthing the child, and apparently raising it. If he wanted to get it aborted but she doesn't, why should he have to raise it if he would've been happy to get it aborted?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

He still has to pay to raise the child.

The child that he didn't want and had opted to abort?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Maybe, he should of used a condom if he didn't want it.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

a) Who said he didn't? Condoms don't always work. b) Maybe she said she was on the pill? People can lie.

I still think he should pay for the kid but, that's probably because I thinks it's the decent thing to do. But, regardless, my point was that it's the woman's decision that matters not the mans. If she wants to abort or keep, it's her decision.

It may be the decent thing to do, but if the woman doesn't give the man a say in whether or not the baby is born (and I do believe that is ultimately the woman's choice), then it's not really fair that she locks him in to also having to raise the child that he didn't want.

no

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Of course they can have an opinion but they're definitely not going to be the decision maker.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I think you shouldn't get a say in anything because you're an idiot.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

This is very tricky. If the man gets no say in it, then the man shouldn't have to pay any child support. If the man has a say in it, then he should pay. As for me, I believe the man should definitely get a say in it. Maybe like a 30-70 thing. He should also have to pay but I don't know how much (in terms of percent). Like I said, very tricky. And I'm not sufficiently informed on this to make a decent choice.

Both the man and the woman should have a say and discuss it, and while I think the man's opinion is important, it shouldn't override the woman's when it comes to aborting vs continuing on with the pregnancy. Both of them are going to have their lives dramatically changed by this decision so they both deserve their thoughts, but I cannot condone making the woman abort when she doesn't want to, or continue when she doesn't want to. However, saying the father doesn't get a say is ridiculous - even if he doesn't carry the baby, it's still his potential child.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Exactly this. Of course the fathers should get a say, but to have the fathers get the //final// say is just as messed up as him getting no say at all.

I would like to add that more woman obtain custody over the child, if the parents are separate, even if the father has a perfectly fine environment for the child. This in my country is a problem in the courts as sometimes even when the mother is a drug addict or something terrible like that, or does not have a suitable home, they can still gain the custody over the child when the fathers is fine. Also fathers that are looking after their child do not gain child support from the mothers. It is purely a father pays mother thing. But again thats from whee i from. (A problem lime this occured to someone i know)

I'm not sure if OP means directly involved men like fathers, or just men in general. I voted YYA, because I always felt like women issues should only be determined by women, like on a state level I mean, for legislation and stuff. But of course a fathers get to have an opinion.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I didn't word it very well so, I apologize for that. I really didn't mean men can't have an opinion only that they shouldn't have any power in the decision. For example, it annoys me very much that women's issues are being determined by men in Congress.

What i was trying to say was, the all liklihood was due to courts giving the mother the custody, regardless of how much better off the father is, thus its not like they arent trying to take care of the. To add also i believe the father has a right to express his opinion, but you cannot force a woman into either desicion.
