+293 You wonder why orthodontists haven't come out with a "special" gum that is o.k to chew with braces and make a fortune. amirite?

People still chew gum with braces though. Like me for example.

well so do I. Just saying that they could make alot of money with that idea, but don't.

and meeee.

well I used to. :)

It's actually a breath mint conspiracy. All orthodontists have a contract with breath mint companies to discourage their patients from chewing gum in exchange for a large sum of cash and shiny equipment.

they have... its called sugarfree gum. its the gum like bubblicious which has sugar in it that makes it sticky to braces...

There is a gum called freedent it is made for people with dental work. You fail!

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You can chew sugar free. I have braces, and I have no problem chewing it

by Anonymous 13 years ago

but doesnt it still get stuck between all the wires? how does being sugar-free make it less sticky?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It doesn't get stuck.

...I've been told I'm allowed to chew sugarfree gum. When I first got my braces, I thought it would really suck to have to switch to sugarfree. Then I went to Wal-Mart to buy gum, and realized that all the gum I chew is sugarfree and I couldn't find any that didn't have "sugarfree!" on the front. Almost all gum is fine.
