+134 If you have been voting for politicians who promise to give you goodies at someone else’s expense, then you have no right to complain when they take your money and give it to someone else, including themselves. amirite?

Not if the someone else are people you don't think deserve it.

If you take goodies at other people's expense, there's probably someone out there who thinks you don't deserve it. Weather or not you think they deserve it is irrelevant, you till have no right to complain when you're on the other side now.

Yes you do, if you think that one person deserves something and another one doesn't, you have a right to complain when the person who you think deserves it gets it taken from them.

Put it this way. You own a huge multi-million dollar company that made it's money from giving people incorrect change and unfair prices. You go to a kiosk to buy a muffin, they give you incorrect change and the muffin cost 6 dollars. You don't have a right to be pissed off about it because you do the exact same thing to everyone, but in your mind the people who buy from your company deserve to be ripped off but other people's companies shouldn't be allowed to rip you off. And by right to be pissed off, obviously everyone has a //right// to feel feelings, but by right, I mean justifiably pissed off. You can be pissed off if you want cuz you have the right, but it's not in the right.

I disagree that that is a fair comparison, you don't rip people off because you think they deserve it, you do it because you're greedy. Suppose you had a crippling affliction and the potential new government said "We'll stop giving free money to people who refuse to work and give more to people who are unable to", so you vote them in and they win and the first thing they do is stop giving money to people unable to work so they can keep it for themselves, do you really not think you'd have the right to complain?

Not exactly what the post is talking about, so sure you'd have a right to complain.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I think the reason I made my first comment is because the post was completely disregarding people like that.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I'm pretty sure the post isn't talking about when someone needs something more gets the thing the need instead of the other people who are perfectly capable of helping themselves but chose not to.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

The post does not mention what anyone needs, it completely neglects it, that is my point.

Who exactly gets to decide who deserves what? You? Poor people? Politicians? The president? Are they God, or some high all-knowing being? No one has the right to make that decision. If someone worked for that fucking degree and awesome job, if someone built that fucking business, THEY DESERVE WHAT THEY WORKED FOR. That's the point of WORK. Even if it was some teenager with wealthy parents, their PARENTS worked hard to be where they are so they could give their child all that, maybe a different life then they had. Entitled fucks.
