It is not about lyrics anymore, It’s about a hot beat and a catchy hook, amirite?

Nowadays these kids just don’t give a shit about lyrics, all they wanna hear is a beat and that's it. As long as they can go to the club and get blitzed,
pick up some chicks and get some digits.. Oh and look, the DJ's playing them hits "Oh, this my jam, this my shit.
They don't know a word to a verse, all they know is the chorus because the chorus repeats the same four words for em.

I agree (and this drives me crazy!) but please don't say "kids" like it's universal. Some of us like music with real lyrics. Most of my favorite artists are my favorites purely because I like their lyrics. Well, really it's that they HAVE lyrics.

It's a SONG, bro. He was quoting a song. As was the original post...

Oh... That it is. Sorry. (cry2)

I'm pretty sure the hook is about the lyrics. Also, I don't mind a song with a good electro beat as long as it's not a song about, as OP says, "go to the club and get blitzed, pick up some chicks and get some digits". THIS is probably the number one reason why electronic dance music has such a bad reputation. The world should know that good electronic music exists if you know where to find it.

Any generations most popular music has never been about lyrics.
People listen to music for the music and always have, yes, the songs with great music and great lyrics have often got a lot of recognition, but the same is true of now.
Can you name a popular song of the past 50 years that has had better lyrics than it has had music?

Nobody is stopping you from listening to music with deep and powerful lyrics...

I feel like people just don't get this.

"We all live in a yellow submarine"
"Down, now boogie down, down, now on down"
"I want to rock n roll all night and party everyday"
vs.
"We don't even have to try, it's always a good time"
"Yeah, my homies still pump that bass"
"Now I'm feeling so fly like a G6"
I honestly don't think you can say "anymore" since it's been true for quite sometime.
But what you're saying is only true in pop, but that's what pop music is supposed to be, it is supposed to please the ear not the mind. Deep lyrics aren't needed, if you have something catchy that pleases the ear and a lot of people can agree.
A lot of rap still has thought-provoking lyrics like Swimming Pools, Yonkers, Ill Mind of Hopsin 5, alternative rock (though I hate it) is also very deep.

by Anonymous11 years ago
That doesn't exempt it from being wrong.

The irony of this song is that the chorus is super catchy.
