-13 Religious people: understanding and practicing the morals of your religion is more important than faith, Amirite?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I think it's, if anything, equally important. If you have no faith, then what's the point of practicing the religion? As for the morals, of course religion doesn't determine whether theyre good or not. I do think it's important to show others, despite the misconceptions they may have, that you live you life a certain way (that is of good) and lead by example. From that maybe they will see you, and want to be a part of it.

so then, if the choice were to be made between not having faith, and not abiding to morals, what do you thing would be a better choice? for yourself, and/or for other people

Well, that's the point I'm trying to make. They go together. You don't have religion without faith, and what's the point of being a part of a religion if you aren't going to take the morals and practices seriously.

That's true. I agree that picking any side would no longer make it religion, but i'm trying to make the point that somebody who does not have faith in a religion can still be a good person, while a person who does not stick to morals taught by religion such as not killing, not stealing, not committing adultery, and other such morals is likely a bad person

People should understand their religion, but having faith is more important. At least I think it should be, but I'm not religious.

In my religion it's hard to understand or practice your morals and REALLY mean it with out faith.

okay, if somebody were to either have faith in a religion, or practice the morals taught by it, and not the other, then morals would be more important (i restated it for another perspective, to emphasize my point more), amirite?

just a recap of some morals taught by religion: do not kill, do not steal, do not cheat, love thy neighbor, and many more
