-69 It's weird to think that humans are the only species that could go extinct without having a big impact on the rest of the living world, amirite?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

The extinction of humans would probably have a positive impact on the biodiversity of the world. If humans literally destroyed the world in a nuclear war, there would be no impact with our extinction. Also, this post reminded me of "There Will Come Soft Rains."

Awkward/Embarassing moments?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

what are you talking about? there would be such a big impact! all the animals we eat would overpopulate, and all the negative things we're doing to the environment would stop!

by Anonymous 11 years ago

The thing with the natural world is that it will always regain equilibrium-if we aren't here to fuck that up, that is. The level of animals would eventually balance itself out. I should have phrased it differently- I meant that if any other animal died out, it would really screw up the food chain/ecosystem where as we wouldn't really make an impact.

...none of what you said is true though?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

There is a big dip in the level of ants. Anteaters start dying because they don't have enough food. Once there are less anteaters, the level of ants starts to grow because they aren't being eaten. Boom, equilibrium.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Are you literally retarded? That's not an equilibrium.

noun, plural e·qui·lib·ri·ums, e·qui·lib·ri·a  [-ree-uh] Show IPA. 1. a state of rest or balance due to the equal action of opposing forces. you know what i meant...ps, i would tone it down on the eye makeup if i were you. just saying.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

That's not an equilibrium, if it is then it's an equilibrium when humans are evolved too. But it's not. My eye make up is just fine, thanks. I wear mascara and tan eye shadow, not that how I do my make up is any of your concern. What you're seeing is a camera with an upped contrast setting, if you use your eyes you can see there is not very much make up at all. It's shadowing on my face, that's why the right eye is darker, the darkness is all over my eye not just on the lid, and everything else has a strong contrast.

LOL alright, I guess I won't bring up your makeup anymore, but nice to learn about your camera settings. And that's a NATURAL balance of things, without throwing humans and our unnatural machines and mass production into the fray. We are fucking up the natural balance of things.

No, just don't bring up unrelated shit in a post as an attempt to insult the person and don't tell people how you would do the things they do, cuz you're not them. You know people can see that you vote up your own comments? Equilibrium =/=natural order.

haha i'm bored of this now, keep arguing...

by Anonymous 11 years ago

In other words: you've got nothing left to say because you had nothing to work with in the first place.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

In other words, I'm a grownup and therefore don't take internet arguments to heart. It's okay if you do, though. I was 13 once.

As far as the food chain, we would still cause an impact if we went extinct.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

We would have a big impact, but it would probably be overall positive. If another species dies out, the impact owuld probably be negative. Humans dying is different because we're sapient and don't just go with the flow, and end up upsetting stuff. Other animals just adapt to survive, while we make the environment adapt to suit us. I'm not sure if that's lazy or not... Anyway, we'd probably adapt to the loss of a speices, but from out point of view, it would be worse than the adaptations of other animals.

I want to vote yes because it IS weird to think that since it's untrue but I also want to vote no because you obviously believe it is true.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Many of the species we're protecting from extinction would die out, and the ones we're hunting into extinction would have a chance of survival. If we all suddenly disappeared though, there'd be no one to care since animals tend to not show emotion towards the continuation of a different species. So, our extinction would have a huge impact on the world, but our disappearance also negates the concept of that difference since there's no one to notice it.

Most domesticated or livestock animals would die out along with most of the species of plants we farm.
