That's how it usually goes for me.. "how do you spell your name..?" A-n-n-a. "i didnt know if it had 2 ns or not.. But no I meant your last name.." S-m-I-t-h.. "Uh.. I thought there was a silent e at the end.."

Or they give the spelling of a fake name and when you're not surprised, they'll know you forgot their name.

I hate it when they ask the spelling of your name at Starbucks. As long as they call out the right name, then it doesn't matter how it's spelt.

You're right! It's probably very difficult to work in a Starbucks in Africa (and New Zealand, and Thailand, and ...) - because if they called out the name like it is spelled you have BIG problems
