+42 You wonder why people who are put into straightjackets are put in a white room. Why not another color, amirite?

if someone knows, please tell me

It's supposed to be calming.

Wouldn't they want a softer color? White is awfully bright.

hmm maybe "calming" wasnt the best word choice. White is neutral and bland and probably won't evoke emotional response from the patient. It also kind of creates a sense of space. Which, for someone who is loosing mental and physical control of themselves, might be just what they need.

Green is the go-to calming color, I thought. That's why many hospital rooms ar some shade of green.

I've heard that some prisons paint the walls of the cells pink and it reduces violent behavior.

Yeah, I heard blue and green were good colors when dealing with mental patients. I haven't been to any psychiatric hospitals though, so I didnt know they painted their walls green. I just assumed they were white.

That's stupid. wouldn't it be more calming to do glow in the dark neon and orange, with red and yellow flashing strobe lights all over the walls?

They don't want the person too stimulated
