+116 People who are American that spell "flavor" with a "u" seem annoying to the Britsh. Seriously, come on. Be true to your flags colours, amirite?

I know explaining it ruins it but could you explain the flag part?

by Anonymous 11 years ago

idk that's the way I got colour into the post. Cause murica doesn't use the u and yeah.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

I am American and I have always spelt: colour, theatre, favourite, rumour, harbour, behaviour, etc. it's not necessarily abot pretense (see what I did there?), it's about respect for language and personal preference. Night will never be "nite," for me.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Nite? Wut? And tommy said that it was originally color. I believe tommy because eh comments on posts and doesn't afraid of anything

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Actually, "theatre" and "theater" are two different words, not British and American versions of the same word. "Theater" is a building, like a movie theater, and "theatre" is the act, like a theatre club at school.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

by Anonymous 11 years ago

OH OK I see it now haha thanks.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Don't know how many of you know already, but if anyone's interested - the american spellings are actually the original ones. After the revolution, the British changed their spellings as a sign of disapproval to the new american nation. changing 'z' to 's' in words like magasine, and adding a 'u' in colour etc.

by Anonymous 11 years ago

it's wordplay

by Anonymous 11 years ago

Yes I did read the post and the comments, I'm aware of how the post works. I'm just throwing some trivia into the mix.

To borrow from Elton for a moment, how about you go play with the following words, arranging them into a nice little sentence: "Face Sodding Your Shut" :-P

Spelling something in a different dialect doesn't make you any less true to your country. Besides, we were founded by the UK. I spell lit a lot like that because of my novel, the main character is British.

It's wordplay.
