+82 It's truly amazing that, after all the shit that the human race has gone through together, we're still assholes to eachother, amirite?

by Anonymous 10 years ago

flip side is that we have compassion towards each other too

Not nearly enough.

You're such an optimist I wish I were as optimistic as you frown

http://www.amirite.com/761734-theres-a-trend-where-people-keep-saying-they-have-lost-faith-in-humanity-because also more people are nice to mean than mean to me

Interesting point. I'm just basically saying that is sucks that people are assholes. It sucks and i dwell on it.

Sadly this may imply that human nature has some innate component of assholeishness.

It's not like we can learn first-hand from the millenniums of experience since even the oldest of us have only been born a little over a century ago. All the lessons we learn from history are small morals we might apply subconsciously day to day. Considering humanity's history, as of the moment, we're relatively peaceful. It's accepted by a large portion of society that world peace is just a naive dream for now. To conclude it'd be more amazing if we weren't this mean to each other. Not that I don't have hope, people's capacities for good are outstanding sometimes.

The only thing to compare us to is animals I guess, to which I'd say we can be more mean to each other but also more compassionate. We have more of an ability to understand what each other is thinking.

I once read something along the lines of "Thank your animal ancestors for the gift of human compassion, cruelty however is a gift from humans themselves."

I guess, but if you think about it...I could hate someone and then save their life. We might be friends for a bit, but we hated each other for a reason, and that could possibly come back.
