Agree, but this barrier also protects you (and that's why it is often used). By taking it down, one makes him vulnerable, that's why it is only possible with people you trust the most. The more one wants to lower it, the stronger he must be in order to cope with the social pressure. The people who succeed in doing this in a good measure are free.
