I'm not dissing it, its amazing song. Read the post genius. "Small town girl", "street lights, people", "smell of wine and cheap perfume". You can't say it doesn't sound like it.

its about two ordinary people who can fall in love. "small town girl, livin in a lonely world, she took the midnight train goin anywhere" "city boy born and raised in south detroit he took the midnight train goin anywhere" they are both on the same train to wherever. the verse with "smell of wine and cheap perfume" is where they go. and dont stop believing: well, i guess that you can figure that one out on your own :)
