-1 No opinion is an opinion, just as no belief is a belief. Amirite?

No apple is an apple. Yes!

An apple is an object - not an opinion!

While I agree with the first part, I do not agree with the second part. Well, I guess it all depends on what definition of belief you're using. I was going to write more but the more I write "belief" the less of a word it looks like.

Merriam-Webster online: : a feeling of being sure that someone or something exists or that something is true : a feeling that something is good, right, or valuable : a feeling of trust in the worth or ability of someone Not sure whose dictionary this was from, but also online: 1. an acceptance that a statement is true or that something exists. "his belief in the value of hard work" something one accepts as true or real; a firmly held opinion or conviction. "contrary to popular belief, Aramaic is a living language" synonyms: opinion, view, conviction, judgment, thinking, way of thinking, idea, impression, theory, conclusion, notion More "it's my belief that age is irrelevant" a religious conviction. "Christian beliefs" synonyms: ideology, principle, ethic, tenet, canon; More doctrine, teaching, dogma, article of faith, creed, credo "traditional beliefs" 2. trust, faith, or confidence in someone or something. "a belief in democratic politics" synonyms: faith, trust, reliance, confidence, credence Here is how I personally see it: If a person has no belief, then his belief in nothing or no one is his belief. I am not sure all atheists are this rigid, but some would actually claim such. If I don't believe I can trust anyone, then I believe that all people are untrustworthy. Whatever a person does not believe or believe in, then they are expressing that they believe everyone else's beliefs are incorrect. If I said I don't believe in love, then I would be saying I believe love does not exist. Whatever a person does not believe, then they believe something to take the place of that non belief.

Well I'm not sure if I can relate to this kind of thing. I am someone who makes their opinions and beliefs known, and I am ready to back them up when they are questioned.

As are most people...............

by Anonymous 10 years ago

I was just saying that I've never actually met someone who actively has no beliefs on anything. Have you?

by Anonymous 10 years ago

There are several atheists on this site who have no belief in God or His existence. Surely that qualifies.

by Anonymous 10 years ago

Ooooh, now I get what you're saying. Yeah, definitely. Because no belief in God is just a belief in no God. I thought you meant people who actually have no opinion on a subject, and I didn't really get that.

by Anonymous 10 years ago

I meant that too..........I am all inclusive

by Anonymous 10 years ago

Ok I just read the little description thing. What if a person just does not care about a subject enough to have an opinion about it? Is that still an opinion?

in function

Then atheism is a belief? No.

by Anonymous 10 years ago

Atheism is lack of theism, not a different belief. It's quite simply the dictionary denotation. Now if you wanna say that a disbelief also have IMPLICATIONS that are beliefs, that makes more sense

by Anonymous 10 years ago

Either way........every atheist has beliefs and their non belief (or lack thereof) in a deity is still a belief that no deity exists. For some very strange reason people seem to think that the word atheism gives those who hold it a magic free pass from any or all religion. They can say, claim, or lack to believe all day long - but that does not make God go away or be truly non-existent. The clearest and best PROOF of God is found in Jesus Christ. If Jesus Christ walked the earth, was the Son OF GOD as He claimed to be, spoke the words of His Father, did the works of His Father, and was the only religious leader to predict and fulfill His resurrection, ascended back to His Father, and called God multiple times His Father - then it is a clear cut and dried case. I don't worry whether they believe or not - but there is plenty of irrefutable evidence from the Bible and the words of Jesus Christ to put the God's existent argument to rest. I challenge you or anyone else to read the Book of John in the New Testament, and then make the claim there is no God. At that point, anyone making such a claim is being utterly foolish.

by Anonymous 10 years ago

You know what. I'm about to study John in my religion class (lol, it's a joke to call it a religion class when it only talks about one). I'll get back to you. Also, there is no way I'll take a book written by a man as the word of god. Lastly, you don't realize how little I care for your god for I've already had my "encounter" with this god. The "encounter" of an unselfish prayer for god to show me that he exists. Then I realized... All that crap about gods "mysterious ways" and "he won't answer your prayer right away" was just a bunch of excuses for god's lack of interference. Then I learned more about the paradoxes of this "god" and logic. So now I see no point in believing in a god for there are only 3 possibilities: 1. There are no deities 2. The god(s) don't give a damn what we believe (makes sense to me) 3. The god(s) do need us to believe and is therefore vain and ineffective at getting others to believe (hence why a majority of the world believes otherwise no matter what religion/nonreligion you follow). This/these gods are unworthy of my favor

Not a problem with me. But please be as tolerant to my beliefs and freedom OF religion as I am towards your having no belief and no religion. Do not mistake my belief for ignorance or stupidity. And do not try to silence my beliefs or speech. I have as much right to what I believe as you have a right to not believe.

by Anonymous 10 years ago

I respect everyone's right to have a belief. I'm not entitled to respect any beliefs though. I also have the right to believe that ones beliefs are ignorant.

by Anonymous 10 years ago

Yes, you do. And I have the same right towards your unbelief and that it is equally ignorant.
