+388 Taking a picture of a flower doesn't make you a photographer, amirite?

by Anonymous 12 years ago

YES! It seems like everyone who has a digital camera thinks they're a photographer now. Makes me mad.

You can take a picture of a lawn chair in black and white you must be a photographer

I agree.. although if the picture of the flower is artistic, has good composition etc.. that's a bit of a different story. It just annoys me when people think they're amazing for posting a picture of anything and expecting to hear tons of compliments.

pho·tog·ra·pher   [fuh-tog-ruh-fer] noun a person who takes photographs. But a PROFESSIONAL photographer is a totally different thing. I believe that's what you meant.

You are really a photographer when you are being paid for your works, otherwise you are just a jackass with an expensive camera.

I agree that people who take pictures of random things and post them just because they think other people will be inspired and amazed at the pictures they took are annoying... but I also think it's silly to hang pictures in your house you didn't take. Like mountains or busy city streets. Taking the pictures yourself can mean so much more than simply looking at someone else's picture.

But if you do it in black and white, that's a totally different story.

Anyone can be a photographer, just know how to take a picture correctly.
