Explained by Theresmore...

Some people think there's nothing wrong with it, some people are not comfortable with the idea. How would you feel?

Oh I personally have no issue with two people talking in their native language & neither should others. I look at it this way if someone wants to know the conversation bad enough copy & paste it in to Google Translator otherwise stop complaining & move on about what others do. (biggrin)

I don't think it is disrespectful at all

I find it very disrespectful. If they want to converse without anyone knowing, they should talk privately in PM. It's very rude.

Talking in the native doesn't mean they want to converse without anyone knowing - as LP said, people can still use Google translate.

It doesn't bother me much, but maybe that's because I'm used to people who speak different languages from me.

No, not on the internet. Most people on Amirite use English, so using another language would limit the amount of feedback received, but that's a personal choice.

It does of course limit the responses others may be able to add. But then again, we are limited too as we cannot always express ourselves as we would be able to when using our own native language.

Well in my country this is not uncommon and Bulgarians will express disdain if they see people of Turkish heritage talking in Turkish, I don't know if it's because they aren't speaking Bulgarian or because of hatred towards the Turks.
