+349 Christopher Columbus is praised for the discovery of the "New World", but not many people know that over 500,000 innocent Indians were killed in the process, amirite?

well there's nothing you can do but complain, and why bother doing even that

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm trying to say that when kids are growing up, they are not taught the complete story.

*enlightenment*

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Wow you are not thought what's true in history class *shocked* Everything you learn in history class is how you country was fair and just and just wanted peace but others wouldn't let them.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

We know, we just don't care. There is nothing we can do about it now. And what school did you go to where they didn't teach you that? For shame.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Actually everyone knows that...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm pretty sure I knew that, and that everyone I know knew that. And that I grew up in a majority Native populated town, and that it's pretty normal to know the whole history. If it's not, then that's just sad, and not an accurate teaching of history at all.

It actually took me until 8th grade social studies to learn this fact and it's only becUse of the teacher I was asighned if not for her o wouldn't have learned this fact

by Anonymous 13 years ago

1st Grade for me.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

well, they're Native Americans, not "Indians"...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

They're American Indians because that's what they're called. Don't be picky with the less important facts, you waste everyone time that way.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yeah and the estimations are actually staggering higher, latest i've read is anywhere from 2 to 9 million. Yet we put the man mostly responsible for this proudly on a $20 bill. god bless america

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I knew this by the time I was in 3rd grade. But even so who cares? We had to kill them to get the country, yea it sucks but hey they didn't want to give the land up and we needed somewhere to go. They were weaker than us and so we won the battle. It has happened before in other places, and it will happen again in the future.

DO YOU KNOW HOW BADLY I WANT TO PUNCH YOU RIGHT NOW!? Before you run your mouth and start acting like a jackass, maybe you want to consider other people first. Like, maybe, take into consideration that some people on this website are native American! You have no idea how offended I am right now. Although American history has a tendency to portray Native Americans as cruel and vicious, we aren't the murders here! It was a homicide against native Americans. The land could have easily been shared, or even fought over without so many deaths. Additionally, if the natives had the advanced technology that was available to the settlers, it wouldn't be such a mass murder. You sicken me.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It was a genocide, not a homicide. Native American tribes (just like all people on Earth), had been fighting each other for hundreds, no, thousands of years. The European settlers just had better technology, they saw what they wanted, and they took it. Just as all people with the ability do. If the tables were turned, and the Native Americans were better off, they would have killed their perceived enemies just the same.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Do you know how badly you are acting like a retard right now? For over thousands of years people have fought for land, all I said was that it's a fact of life, I was not rude about it at all, even if you are Native American it's not being rude because I was not being racist or targeting anybody, all I said was that Americans had better technology and we wanted their land. If you would stop to think logically for a fucking second instead of jumping on my dick you would have seen that. You sicken me with your lack of intelligence while trying to act like you know everything about what has happened. You don't know shit, get the fuck back to your classroom and back to asking your mommy for help for homework.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I agree with you, but you are too easily angered by other peoples stupidity. Just take it in, and reply in a calm intelligent manner. You are clearly smarter than them. Don't let them get to you.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

And he didn't even discover a 'new world'. It had already been 'discovered' by the native Americans. So basically, he just found it again.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

500,000 Indians weren't killed in the process, 500,000 native americans were killed in the process, btw Indians are people from India
