Atkinson is a classic, a true inheritor of Chaplin. They both can make you laugh your socks off without uttering a single word.

The only other actors I admire are the cast of Allo Allo, they came to Bulgaria once and I'm so mad at myself that I couldn't meet them.

I could...though, admittedly, the only Brit I've known out here in the RW was my great-grandmother...who for some reason I took an instant dislike to and, as a toddler, apparently threw a regular temper tantrum whenever we visited when she lived with my grandparents. Back in the '70s, I carpooled with a Brit for a few months, and he was quite funny. I invited him and his wife over to our house for an evening together and they were charming.

Since I saw you talking about football teams a few posts above, this guy was from Watford. He also explained to me that it's a myth about Brits preferring their beer warm. They drink it room temperature because their fridges are so small they only have room in them for perishables and beer doesn't qualify for space in there.

I used to live in UK (London) back in 2000 for some time. It took me three weeks to find Brits that sounded like the Brits on telly. Perhaps the fact, that I lived in an area where half of the people were of Jamaican descent and the other half were more or less hardcore Jewish, had something to do with the accent problem. Once though, some guys thought I was Australian, which is kind of weird because three years later, when I had a ten week stint in US lots of people said I sounded German...

Wow, that is a really interesting story.

There was absolutely no question about the accent of the guy that I worked with being a Brit according to the stereotypical one I heard on TV shows. There were a couple of other guys that I worked with who had distinctive accents which were uniquely different and I found out that they were Jamaicans.

I also sometimes like to joke with Americans about the accent thing by telling them that we are the ones with the accent. The Brits invented the English language, so they are pronouncing it correctly and the Americans are not!

For some reason, the older I get, I like the Boston accent quite a bit. I'm not an expert on accents, my ears aren't really that well-trained, but when it comes to British accents, I rather like Welsh pronouncing a lot. Canadians are easy to converse with, as their version of British is closer to the original - unless they are Frenchies, in which case things may get a bit hairy.
