My mother, when she was feeling fun, would, occassionaly, make us banana splits for dinner.
I remember those times very fondly.

Of course. If they don't try the crap food how will they know how good they have it when the good food comes? They just can't have a steady diet of junk food.

I feel the occasional dose of less-than healthy food probably won't tip the scales against hope for longevity... the average person would probably survive to 80 or so :)
