Those who have not traveled far from their homeland are like a the reader of a great novel who has never bothered to turn a single page.

Top Comment

I agree, but the quote is flawed. Many people don't travel far from their homeland because they don't have the means. How can you be considered a reader of a great novel if you haven't turned a page? JMHO.

Suppose like with the bible people read that every day sometimes over and over. I read the bible but never try to memorise it as some do - am a veracious reader usually 3 books going all the time. My kindle account is very busy.

I've mentioned going to Australia to my husband, we could stop in Hawaii for two weeks, only to break up the trip, lol, then onto Aussy land for a couple of weeks, then back to Hawaii for a week, then home. I thought that was a great idea, don't you agree? lol For some reason he nixed the idea. lol

I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to live in another country, and visit others. Most people who are actually interested in visiting other places aside from their own, probably do turn the page of the book. :)

Without going out of my door
I can know all things on earth.
Without looking out of my window
I can know the ways of heaven.

For the farther one travels,
The less one knows.

The sage therefore
Arrives without travelling,
Sees all without looking,
Does all without doing.

Just because a person has traveled away from their homeland doesn't make them wise. It makes them a tourist. Many who never travel far from home could writes books about what they know, and what they have experienced.

People can travel the world, yet always be limited to existence within their own small minds. People who have never strayed far from their hometown can experience other lands, cultures, ideas...worlds.

As always... JMHO

I agree on the notion, that living abroad can give you a better understanding on life, but I'm not completely certain, if that has happened in my case.

Zonk, I think there is a huge difference in "traveling" abroad, and "living" abroad.
I've lived, in Korea, Germany, Kuwait and Iraq. I've "traveled" to 34 other countries. I understand the first 4, I've only seen the rest.

I have no desire to leave my homeland..
I haven't seen everything in it..yet.

It's kinda like going to a stadium to see a sports game.

After all the annoying crap you have to go through...
Waiting in line for the restroom, waiting in line for food and drinks, paying outrageous prices, etc..

Travel Log on PBS is pretty good..
