Happy Birthday Gents

Explained by Freeranger...

To all my brothers, both near, far and those aboard this particular cruise liner, a hearty Happy Birthday. 242 years of unparalleled excellence. No better friend, nor wore enemy. Semper Fidelis.

“The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. Thank God for the United States Marine Corps!”

― Eleanor Roosevelt

That Eleanor Roosevelt was one smart lady. Happy birthday, boys.

Colonel Louis H. Wilson
“The wonderful love of a beautiful maid,
The love of a staunch true man,
The love of a baby, unafraid,
Have existed since time began.

But the greatest of loves, The quintessence of loves.
even greater than that of a mother,
Is the tender, passionate, infinite love,
of one drunken Marine for another.

Machine Gun John grew up Raritan, NJ. The football stadium and field house of my high school were named after him and there is a statue in the square of John carrying a machine gun.

My mum (a marine) served with, and lived in the same barracks as John Basilone's wife. The lead writer for the series, "The Pacific" interviewed my mum for some time before that series began. They had nothing to go on when setting up her role in the series and my mum played a major role in fleshing out her role.
Ha...small plug there......
