Democracy is the worst form of government ever devised, with the exception of all those other ones.

Democracy is the worst form of government ... except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.

Is that what's called a "turn off phase"? Where the listener is being set up for a twist? It reminds me of another quote by the same man.

You can always count on Americans to do the right thing - after they've tried everything else.

Democracy is an oft overused word, the meaning of which few understand. Our form of government incorporates elements of democracy, but is actually a republic. A democratic republic, yes, with republic being the key element, for that is what allows for minority rights and prevents mob rule.

It's all a matter of scale and cooperation. A benevolent dictatorship is more efficient on large scales, than a democracy.

Benevolent dictatorship isn't feasible

On the contrary.
Given that the majority of Americans don't participate to any significant degree in their government ... a dictatorship isn't that far-fetched. Especially if the military was behind the coup.
And a "benevolent dictatorship" just means the dictator does what is best for the majority of people. (which is better than what our Congress currently does)

And what happens when the benevolent dictator dies and all that's left to take their place is some power hungry ****?

The same thing that happens in any other form of government ... including democracies and republics.

The fact remains that the closer a government is to being run by a single individual, the more efficient it is.

Efficient at doing what? A dictator has no reason to have the best interests of their people in mind.

Efficient at anything.
If a bridge needs to be built ... a dictator (or monarch) can say "do it", and it gets done. Far more efficient than a representative form of government, where it has to go through a committee.

From personal experience, committees do nothing other than add additional time and expense.

But again, why should a dictator care about what's best for the people of a country?
