We got a light dusting of snow then it was gone but to hear the weather guy it was going to be like 10 foot of snow (hehe).

It is going to be in the 40s here all week with lows in the 20s but that is normal for us. Heck last week we were still having 60 degree weather is not normal for this area at this time of year.

I'm 5 hours east of Windsor, in Ottawa. It's a little more northern as the St Lawrence river makes it's way up north. We are 45 minutes from the river and US border.

It snowed all day yesterday and NYC got about 4 inches of snow. The salt spreaders were out, so the roads are OK for driving, but it's cold - 37 degrees feels like 30 with the wind chill. Hard to believe that two weeks ago, it was 70 degrees!

Depends what you mean by cheap heating costs. My electricity bill stays about the same at $55.00 @ month (which is good), but my natural gas bill is around $130 a month during winter season.
Darn criminals if you ask me.

Man, 42c...wow that's hot. Must be with humidity.

Hey thanks for the snow! (biggrin) Not a lot of humidity actually, very dry. The hottest we get in summer is abou8t 45 - 47c yet that is still cooler than Arizona so I suppose I can't complain (hehe) but an average electricity bill here for a house is around $250 per month. When I had my own house and used electricity for the air conditioner in summer, the bill was around $500 per month and for some home owners they're paying $700 per month. The reason the prices are so high are firstly due to successive governments on both sides who owned the power company not spending money on maintaining infrustructure. Then one day when it was all falling apart they sold it off to private enterprise who immedately had to increase power pricess exponentially to fix the infrastructure. Then of course there is the mandate by the government to not replace coal fired power stations. Only problem is that they don't have a plan to replace it with anything else (eek)

Holy cow!!! Your electricity cost are outrageous. Even if I run air all summer, it may hit around $70 max @ month.

Our power is regulated by the government as well. The damn Government has there hands in everything.

We have to run our aircon when it's hot and something like 10% of all consumers have defaulted on their electricity bills with some in payment plans and others have just had it disconnected.

Priviate ownership has really helped our Internet services here, but it hasn't helped electricity at all as the private companies now have to make a profit for shareholders and they don't care if the poorest can't afford it. I don't blame them though, i blame the government for mismanaging an essential service for years then washing their hands of it. It's an area where I believe it needs responsible governing and private ownership can play a part too. jmho

Yup, shareholders don't care one bit about end users or how many people can't afford to pay their electricity bills. It's all about profit.

I agree! If i was my countries dictator... (just waiting for my application to be processed lol) I would work out the average amount of electricity that a poor family needs to survive on, for basic lighting, heating, cooking etc and that amount per month I would put a cap on based on what's affordable for the typical lowest income. Then everyone in the country with an electricity meter from the poorest to an aluminium smelter would get this first few kw/hrs capped - no means testing, then past that the electricity companies can charge what they like. The subsidy would be paid by taxes which would upset some but it would be a small amount and as dictator I rule (hehe)
