If you are sure there is only one answer, then you understood neither the problem nor the proposed solution.

Top Comment

2 x 2 = 4 That's the answer and the solution, the problem is solved.

Depends on what you are talking about. Sometimes solutions are obvious, sometimes not.

Solution can be obvious. The danger comes in thinking it is the only solution.

Yes sometimes we brainstorm for answer to problem get frustrated and if just patient and observant sometimes the answer is right in front of us.

That is one solution. It is far from the only solution. In carpentry for example, 2 x 2 = 1.75 x 1.75

Actually ... you're right, same as a 2 x 4.

You are going to get all kinds of shit for this post.

Someone will say 1+1=2. But you are right, after Leibniz showed us that 1+1 also equals 10, the world opened to the possibility of digital computing.

I agree. Being a skeptic, I would not say that 1 plus 1 will always equal 2. For all I know, we might someday make a discovery that invalidates our current understanding of addition.

I like mr. Zinc's example. In binary it equals 10.

The proposed solution. Hmmmm....
Not every problem has a solution. Sometimes they solve themselves. Sometimes a problem is eternal.
Sometimes ones problem can be another's solution.

Life is a problem ......

Are you speaking of a specific problem or every problem? If the problem is that you're thirsty, the only reasonable solution is to drink. If the problem is that there's a child molester on the loose there are any number of solutions.

Well said. But what to drink, how much, and from which of the many possible sources do we choose to drink?

Liquid, from whatever source you can find that isn't toxic.

If that is the case you better make sure the askier is worth your time - If not walk away - if so make them put the question into a form you understand.

That is exactly the situation when a bill comes up for a vote in the legislature. The legislature insists that all people must conform to one solution, but the people might never agree on which solution is right or whether one solution is right for all cases. (Abortion, for example.)
