More people are killed by people who believe they have justice on their side than by those who are simply wicked.

IDK. I sure would like to see that data base though. :)

The generals and foot soldiers on both side of every war "believe they have justice on their side." Some may be wicked also, but most do not believe they are. The truly wicked know they are without justice. Those killers are few and far between.

Well, that's one way of looking at it, but I would take it a level higher. Stalin, Mao, Hitler, Pol Pot....etc were the evil bastards that told the Generals what to do.

I see your point. But who mowed down the masses? Foot soldiers who believe they had justice on their side.

And what did the concentration camp guards say when they were later brought to trial?

Not, "Oh, we believed we were right because we were defending Germany against the international Jewish conspiracy."

But rather, "We were just following orders," with the clear implication that they knew it was wrong, but had no other choice.

I think the fact of the matter is that most of these guards were brutes who enjoyed tormenting and killing people; i.e., just plain wicked.

Warriors on both side of every war believed they had justice on their side, rather they did or didn't, they believed it.

That's conjecture, not stats. Many people who fight in wars, fight because they are ordered to fight, without an understanding of why they are fighting or feeling any sense of the war being "just" or not.

The greatest number of deaths occur in battles. Every person who charged the field believed in his or her heart that they fought for might and that they were right. The believed they had justice on their side. Both sides believed it.

Except for a few mercenaries who were in it for the money.

"The greatest number of deaths occur in battles."

Six times as many people died in the 20th century due to democide as died in battle in all the external and internal wars combined.

Did those leaders commit those horrors because they wanted to be evil or because they thought they were being just?

Moot point, as I was simply pointing out the fallacy of your statement. But to answer your question...while I doubt "justice" was on their minds, I cannot speak to what their thoughts actually were...factually, they were evil.

I understand they were evil. I have two questions
1) did the victims stand still or was there a struggle (battle)?
2) did they kill to be evil? I think not. I think very few people kill because they want to be evil. I think the majority believe in a higher purpose, a just cause.

I think a soldier under fire on a battlefield thinks mainly of staying alive, kill or be killed, not who has justice on their side.

Maybe. I think the majority of those who kill and feel good or okay about it, try to convince themselves that they have "justice" on their side. I do not think that excludes them from being "wicked", in any kind of way.
