"congregational instincts "?
You mean political correctness?

I'm not that limited. That's why many people believe I'm simply contrary, a grumpy old man, can't agree with anyone on anything.

By congregational instincts I mean an innate desire to be with others. We are social animal and instinctually congregate.

Agreed. Most of us have enough awareness to recognize social norms, and enough self-restraint to abide by them. And most are not "free" enough to kill another without fear of consequence.

When two or more people live in the same area they have to adopt some rules about who does what to whom. Any such rule is called a more', French accented e pronounced "mor-ay". The adjective form is moral, and the habit of following more's is morality. More's are arbitrary: they do not have to be right, only accepted. Another group on the other side of the river might have very different more's.

This has nothing to do with freedom. You are free to ignore more's and your neighbors are free to refuse to associate with you. Freedom ends when people band together and use force to control your behavior or to punish you for evading controls.
