My dad says that rules, laws, and regulations are designed to protect the weak and the stupid. And we wonder why we have a decaying society.

Your dad is grossly oversimplifying.

Ask him if laws against child abuse are "to protect the weak and stupid"? Are laws against drunk driving "to protect the weak and stupid"? Are the laws and regulations that prohibit a chemical company from dumping toxic waste into a river "to protect the weak and stupid"?

Seeing how you are hiding because you just made this to stir the shit pot...which do you fall under "the weak or the stupid" (crs)

Laws are in place to protect everyone...it is the stupid that doesn't follow them (ono)

I can see what he is thinking, but Chris is right, he is way over generalizing the statement.

Printing "this coffee is very hot" on cups because it is a law would probably qualify as one of those to protect the duller knives in our communities.

Here's an example for Chicago:

Laws are not "designed". If they were, we would not need an industry to try to understand them.

Unless that industry is the one designing them ... to further its own position and make itself necessary.

Yes, there is that.

Wall Drug Store in Wall, SD has always relied heavily on billboards advertising free ice water and five cent coffee. So when Johnson's woman started a crusade against bill boards, it only made sense that the owner of the drug store would get on the committee to write the laws for South Dakota, and of course they magically did not apply to Wall Drug Store billboards.

BTW the coffee is still five cents because it would cost too much to repaint all those billboards.
